13.01.2022 There has been lots of activity around our ground the past few days! As many of you will know, we haven’t been able to play any home games this season due to the condition of our pitch. The Willow Grove Cricket Club committee members have been working tirelessly to find a solution, to ensure home games can be played in the new year. We are running a special fundraising initiative to cover the cost of a new pitch, including synthetic grass, and a new cover for football season.... Huge thanks to RT of Tulloch Concreting for preparing and pouring the new pitch, on a super tight timeline! Special mention to Glenn Fozard for the fundraising signage! Thank you to all those who have pledged support already. Please contact club president Joshua Coombs, to help bring the mighty Wolves home! See more

07.01.2022 JUNIOR PREMIERSHIPS Huge congratulations go out to our junior teams, all making it into finals! U12’s ... Thank you very much to Mark Jarvis (Coach) and Rob Pheonix (Assistant) for the fantastic efforts over the past season. Well done to our young wolves finishing 3rd on the ladder making it to the semi-final. Unfortunately we were knocked out of contention against a very strong Churchill. Great work lads and I’m excited to see your talents progress through the club U14’s Big big thank you to Simon Robinson (Coach) Shane Millroy (assistant coach) and Nathan Wheildon (assistant) for your continued hard work throughout the season! Turbo promised you a chance at the holy grail and you boys took the opportunity with both hands! The fellas finished second on the ladder, facing off against Centrals in the semi. A 50* stand for Liam Cumiskey and 4/10 from Waylon van der Stoep were huge to get the boys into the Grand final against CATS. John White player of the match Will Robinson put on a show smashing 73* to lead his side to a convincing win. Wickets were shared between bowlers sealing an impressive win. Congratulations on the cup lads. Well deserved!! U16’s Excellent coaching again goes out to Steve Blackshaw, this season assisted by Rob Tulloch. Our under 16 team were no doubt the strongest team in the competition all year going through undefeated. Finishing well and truly on top of the ladder, we played the Centrals in the semi final. 4/10 from Bibek Gaire and 3/11 from Kate Wheildon restricted centrals to just 82. A healthy 46 run partnership between Thomas Blackshaw and Nathan Wheildon sore the wolves win the game only 2 wickets down. The premiership was played against a strong Morwell team only losing to the grove by a single run earlier on in the season. Shades of last seasons B grade premiership crept in with Willow grove batting first and struggling early. Nathan Wheildon (38*) and u14 Will Robinson held on to post a score of 83 Excellent bowling once again from Nathan Wheildon collected another premiership 5 fa with help from tight and effective bowling around him. Obvious choice of player of the match went to captain Nathan Wheildon. Super proud of you boys and girl for being true Premiers and Champions! The future of the club is in very good hands and I’m proud to see our juniors represented across our senior teams as well. I’m extremely excited to see you all tear it up in years to come. Cherish the wins and learn from the losses, but most of all be proud to be a wolf. Well done again to all our juniors. We’ll see you again next season when we start our 2020/21 campaign. Go the Grove

05.01.2022 CANCELLATION: REMAINDER OF SEASON In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic sweeping the country and globe, Cricket Australia have released the following statements; *********************************************... Putting the health & safety of all participants, volunteers and the wider community first, and in line with the decisions made for elite cricket, Cricket Australia expects that all Premier and Community Cricket competitions cancel all cricket activity for the remainder of the 2019/20 season from 17 March 2020. Your local State or Territory Association is communicating directly with its clubs, associations, school competitions and indoor centres with more detailed advice. Why have we made this decision? Our number one priority is to the cricket communities that we lead and serve, as well as their families. We all need to do our part to protect players, staff, volunteers and match officials at all levels of Australian cricket during the global coronavirus pandemic. We acknowledge that most competitions are reaching their exciting pinnacle, and any decision to cancel Premier and Community Cricket competitions will disappoint many people. However, this recommendation has been made on strong advice from Cricket Australia’s Chief Medical Officer and consultation with all levels of government to ensure that cricket is doing everything it can to contribute to the global effort to slow, and eventually stop, the spread of coronavirus. Should clubs and associations hold end-of-season functions and awards nights? All State & Territory Associations have cancelled or postponed their end-of-season awards functions in the coming weeks. Australian cricket recommends all clubs and associations follow suit and consider the cancellation or postponement of any end-of-season functions in the current public health environment. ******************************************** It is because of these statements we have decided to cancel our presentation day this Sunday the 22nd of March. Although there does not seem to be a health risk quite to the extent of Melbourne and other metropolitan areas, we as a club have a responsibility to maintain the health and safety of our members and families. Going against Cricket Australia’s strong recommendations would simply be ignoring that responsibility. Please accept that this is not the desired outcome to end a fantastic season of cricket however the complex nature of the state of the world right now leaves us with very little choice. Follow our page for updates, news, dates etc as we push forward as Willow Grove Cricket Club. Go The Grove
