25.01.2022 When next doors Holstein bull breaks in and 9 months passes.......you naughty girl Violet
21.01.2022 Willowew Farm pie is on the menu tonight. Slow cooked beef and pork with onion, stock, herbs from the garden, salt and pepper. Thickened with gravox and we have ourselves delicious pies. Whole family ate it, which is a big tick in our fussy family!
20.01.2022 Water would normally barrel through here with this rain. Our little earth wall slowing and spreading the water passively and holding it higher in our landscape than it would otherwise.
20.01.2022 Welcome to the world little one. Silver and her Halloween born calf.
18.01.2022 Well it’s been a big week for the farm. We advertised a few of our young heifers to see if we could find a nice forever home for them and we were literally contacted from multiple states across Australia. We have never tested that market and we had an influx. Our first beautiful girl to go was Dolly, our black girl went yesterday. 3 more going tomorrow and more going over the next month. Gille (bull) and a few of our girls going into a similar type farm and breeding program in NSW. They have all ended up in really nice homes. Time for Duncan Jr to step up and be our stud bull for our Highland fold.
17.01.2022 Our future matriarch Eve now 8months turning into a beautiful girl. She’s clearly inherited Gilles brindle colour and her matriarch mum Angels calmness.
15.01.2022 We had to intervene today between mum and calf. Home with us now, probably it’s first proper feed. Meet Simba........if we can keep him alive he will be Duncan Jr long term buddy.
12.01.2022 Another delivery today, dropping 2 heifers off to a lovely family in the Dandenongs. Will make a couple of very pretty grazers on their property.
10.01.2022 Although this space is far from finished it’s a small experimental space we have been planting out. We have edibles in here including pear, many apple varieties, nectarine, peacherine, cherry, pineapple guava, black walnut and then to support the fruit trees tagasaste, black wattle. We also have quince in the wetter areas. We even have some feature trees like Maple and Jacaranda in there. It’s only about 1/3 of an acre (1300sqm) in area but in time it will get up quite tall, shed and dog runs will disappear and we will have learned a lot from pruning to pest and disease management amongst other things. Watch this space
08.01.2022 This is how it played out and who actually caught the fish, he just didn’t want to touch it but the tin arse always gets the first fish!
04.01.2022 The mystery is solved, first trout caught in our dam
04.01.2022 Dropped Duncan Jr (21 months) off at the farm today for his first time with the fold. He didn’t waste anytime, clocking on straight away and finding one of our young heifers (Minnie) to chase around. With a bit of luck Minnie will have her first calf in July/August 2021.
04.01.2022 Fenella and her daughter Minnie(Brindle) Fenella about to turn 20yrs old. We wanted to keep her line so we hung on to Minnie, now 3yrs who will be bred for the first time this year. Fenella is that ever dependable grandma the rest of the fold leave their babies with when they need to graze and she is staunch to the core.
03.01.2022 Spring is in the air, dwarf nectarine, part of the edible garden surrounding our kids playground.
02.01.2022 The kids playground garden feature tree well and truly in blossom now. Then our mature feature Golden Ash filling in the background on the left. The start of a little native garden on the right. And the kids other playground, fishing straight out the back of the ute on the farm
02.01.2022 Some of colours we have popping up around the garden at the moment. Funny how your interests in flowers and colour evolves with you as your garden and interests in that space evolves. Winter colour will be our next phase to work on.
01.01.2022 Duncan Jr will get his first run this year with the ladies
01.01.2022 Well it was not planned but she is pretty cute.
