23.01.2022 A message from Chief Officer Mark Jones QFSM: Yesterday saw the first significant fire weather for the 2020-21 Fire Danger Season. The CFS and MFS responded to ...hundreds for fires, most of which were initiated by lightning strikes. The majority of the fires were expertly extinguished due to the fast response of our state’s firefighters backed by rapid deployment of aerial support on the larger incidents. Whilst this is the first bushfire test of the season, both fire services continue to work together to deliver high quality safety services to the public across the state. I would also like to thank those who operated Farm Fire Units who did an excellent job putting out smaller fires on their properties, without the CFS needing to attend. These fires serve as a timely reminder that the weather and nature will continue to present challenges to the safety of South Australians. The Fire Services of the State recognise those challenges and prepare to face them together in the best tradition of the emergency services. The CFS alone responded to 163 fires, with over 200 call outs for other emergency responses, including road crash rescue and trees down. Thank you to all of our volunteers who responded to incidents yesterday, and to the members of public who heeded our messages and helped us to keep you safe.

20.01.2022 Flinders - EXTREME
18.01.2022 The Fire Danger Season for Flinders starts this Sunday, November 1st.
17.01.2022 Fire Danger Ratings are an indicator of how dangerous a bushfire could be if it did occur. It is not a predictor of how likely a bushfire is to occur. Do you know what the different ratings mean?
17.01.2022 The 2019-20 fire season, often called the Black Summer, was felt in every part of Australia, but it’s hard to deny New South Wales was hit the hardest. 5.3 million hectares of their state burnt, and 26 lives were lost several of them firefighters. In late 2019 NSW called for interstate help, and South Australia’s firefighters were happy to help, knowing that firefighters from NSW would help us in our time of need as they have done before. Well over a thousand firefighters... were deployed to NSW, including people from SA Country Fire Service, SA Metropolitan Fire Service, and Department for Environment and Water (National Parks). Four of our members were among those deployed, with some of our firefighters deployed to NSW up to 3 times each. In September 2020 it was announced that recognition would be given to all personnel who served in NSW during the 2019-20 fire season. That recognition came in the form of the NSW Premiers Bushfire Emergency Citation, which consists of a letter and certificate, a commemorative cap, and the citation itself; a rectangular, silver framed, navy-blue bar featuring a red stripe to signify the bushfire event, and the NSW State Flower. 14.01.2022 At the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, we will pause to remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice in times of war.
14.01.2022 Some of our members have been very well travelled these last few months. So far this fire season we have had; 4 members on a shift at Yorketown 5 members on a shift at Cuddlee Creek... 2 members on a shift at Secret Rocks 5 members on a total of 7 deployments to New South Wales 5 members on deployment to Kangaroo Island 1 member on deployment to Miltalie Several more of our members are currently preparing for deployments to Kangaroo Island this week. As the fire season continues, we will likely see our members travel to new parts of the country, as well as continuing to look after our own backyard.
13.01.2022 WATCH | A touching tribute to our amazing fire fighters has emerged, following the state's devastating blazes. 'Ash On Their Face' is a song written and record...ed by Taree local Hamish McDonald. "A tribute to the Fire Fighters who did such an amazing job protecting us in a time of great need. Thank you to every single one of you with Ash on your face," said Mr McDonald.
13.01.2022 The Ash Wednesday bushfires, known in South Australia as Ash Wednesday, were a series of bushfires that occurred in south-eastern Australia on 16 February 1983.... Within twelve hours, more than 180 fires fanned by winds of up to 110 km/h (68 mph) caused widespread destruction across the state. Years of severe drought and extreme weather combined to create one of Australia's worst fire days in a century. There were 28 deaths in South Australia, including 3 CFS volunteer fire-fighters who died while protecting the community. Many fatalities were as a result of firestorm conditions caused by a sudden and violent wind change in the evening which rapidly changed the direction and size of the fire front. The speed and ferocity of the flames, aided by abundant fuels and a landscape immersed in smoke, made fire suppression and containment impossible. In many cases, residents fended for themselves as fires broke communications, cut off escape routes and severed electricity and water supplies. We take a moment today to remember those that were lost in this devastating fire and our hearts go out to those people who still are still haunted by this awful day. . . #SouthAustraliaBushfires #AshWednesday #CountryFireService #CFS #SACFS #CFSFoundation #SupportingCFSVolunteersSince2001
12.01.2022 The forecast for tomorrow isn't looking great. It'll be hot and windy, and if that isn't enough, dry thunderstorms are being predicted for our area. Both Flinders and Mid North will have an EXTREME Total Fire Ban, and six other districts will have a SEVERE Total Fire Ban. Please do the right thing tomorrow. Avoid activities that have the potential to start a fire. Listen to warnings from emergency services. Enact your bushfire survival plan,
11.01.2022 The past week has seen some tough fire conditions and with it warming up again, we are expecting to see a return to dangerous fire weather over the weekend. Bet...ween record breaking temperatures, a tragic road toll, and deployments to Tasmania, Victoria, Queensland and for the past three months NSW, it really has been a trying year for CFS Personnel. However you plan to spend the next couple of days, we ask that you be safe and act sensibly so that, where possible, our volunteers can relax and enjoy some time with their families and loved ones. Please abide by Fire Danger Season rules and moderate your behaviour to suit the conditions, be careful and rest when driving, and report any dangerous behaviour to SAPOL. We would also like to give a special shout out to the South Australian personnel from CFS, National Parks and Wildlife, MFS, SES and SA Ambulance, who are currently deployed to support firefighting efforts in NSW. We’re incredibly proud and thankful for you giving up this special time to help our friends in NSWRFS. Merry Christmas, and have a restful, peaceful festive season.

01.01.2022 Statewide Fire Bans FLINDERS -SEVERE
01.01.2022 Today is International Firefighters Day. Too many firefighters lost their lives this fire season. Today we recognise the sacrifice they made. None of them got on the truck at the start of their shift knowing it would be their last. They all left behind loved ones and colleagues who will never forget them, and we won’t forget them either. Today we show our appreciation for all firefighters, both past and present, around the world. We might be a little biased, but we think we’ve got some of the best firefighters in our own brigade. We’d like to thank them all for being great people and awesome firefighters and making our brigade the best it can be.
