21.01.2022 with so much footy fever around this last weekend thought you might enjoy some of Wilmot's footy boys from the Premiership team in 1920 to a group of guys that most people will recognise and the 1969? Wilmot School football team

21.01.2022 With football returning to our screens I thought it appropriate to acknowledge one of Wilmots own stars. Britt Gibson who grew up in Wilmot and parents still live here has made it to the highest level in WAFL. This article is from the Sunday Tasmanian earlier this year

21.01.2022 another of our followers asked about names for this photo the sent us. The second photo is from our museum records but is titled Kentish football team 1929. Obviously the same photo so will have to do some more checking but this shows the names attached to the photo

17.01.2022 The museum recently received this wonderful trophy from 1911. From a report in the Advocate of December 7th, 1911 we were able to find it was given to the winner of the Handicap Foot Chop at the 11th annual Wilmot Sports event. Here is part of the write up of the event: The weather was fine, and the attendance was a considerable improvement on last year fully 600 being present. The sports were got off satisfactorily by the active secretary, Mr John Stewart, with the able assi...stance of the energetic Mr T J Clerke and a strong committee. The principle event, the Wilmot Cup was contested by the unlucky 13, and proved very exciting, it was decided in 2 heats and a final and the last chop proved a good go, and the victory of the local competitor was very popular. The Wilmot Cup First cup presented by Mr TJ Clerke and 40 Shillings, second 20 shillings, third 10 shillings. Two heats were run First Heat 1st C Glover, 2nd Vincent, 3rd D Nichols. Second heat 1st R French, 2nd Williams, 3rd Davis. The Final 1st R French, 2nd D Nichols 3rd C Glover. Other interesting events were also contested and last night a grand concert was held in the Rechabite Hall. The days festivities closed with a dance. See more

Leslie was the son of Clarrie and Elizabeth Richards of Wilmot. Clarrie lost his brother Alf in the first world war. Leslies wife was Lieta nee Witchurch. Although Leslies nieces and nephews never met him - all felt like they knew him through the many stories told by his brothers Ted, Jack and George. LEST WE FORGET

06.01.2022 On Wednesday 2 September the Wilmot Tourist & Progress Association held their AGM. Our secretary Sandra Roden-Rich stepped down due to health reasons. Sandra first joined the Association in the 1990's and remained a member until her departure for Africa in May 2003. On her return in 2011 Sandra was asked if she would help with the cataloguing of items at the Wilmot Museum which she agreed to and following on from that rejoined. Sandra became Secretary in 2014 and remained in this role until the AGM. The President Phillip Richards presented Sandra with a gift and card as a thank you for her service over many years. Sandra is remaining on as a member and I am sure we will be calling on her expertise as new members settle into their roles

04.01.2022 just a reminder to all ladies in the Wilmot area of this event tomorrow

04.01.2022 The Wilmot Tourist and Progress Association Inc formed a sub committee late 2019 tasked with looking at ways to enhance the Wilmot Cemetery. Ideas for achieving this include an entrance portico including a map of grave sites, planting trees to filter view of refuse tip, providing identification of unnamed graves Levelling of walkways and rows between graves where possible, allowing safer accessibility for all, planting of shrubs or similar near the memorial wall, and havi...ng 2 seats for people to sit and reflect. With Covid, unfortunately the working bee that was planned has been put on hold, but we would like to get one of the projects under way and have one of the reflection seats installed this year. We are asking members of the community or those with family ties to the cemetery to consider assisting with a donation towards the cost of the seat. Each seat is approx. $2,500 and made of steel and mod wood, placed on a cement base as shown in the photo below. The seat would be inscribed with wording similar to Wilmot Cemetery Est 1898. If you are interested in donating, then please either comment below or send a pm. Thanks in advance. See more
