25.01.2022 Impressed to see so many schools promoting this important film. If you are a parent, this film will highlight the challenges of our generation in raising children vulnerable to screen addition.

23.01.2022 School holidays start this week. PLEASE take your child to the library and encourage them to borrow a book to be enthralled by. As a parent of four children growing up in the digital age, I am heart-broken that the beautiful literature they have access to, frequently takes second-place to their screens. In order to enhance literacy skills, there is absolutely NOTHING better than a quality book. I am setting my kids the challenge to read at least one beautiful classic these ...holidays - I'm not sure how successful that will be, but I can only try. And for those who struggle to read, young and old, take a look at this beautiful advertisement and be both reassured and inspired. Not all generations and people have been blessed with the gift of literacy, but it is never to late. :)

21.01.2022 Congratulations to Year 12 students on your HSC. There have been deserved celebrations across all schools, each with their own success stories. It is truly a time for students, parents and schools to acknowledge the special significance of this milestone. Dubbo School of Distance Education is one of these schools, but it is unique in that it provides education to students who cannot attend mainstream education. Because of this, their 2017 HSC 'success stories' brought an emotional tear to my eye. Well done DSDE on all you do for rural, remote, disadvantaged and otherwise marginalised students ~ you have lifted up your class of 2017 and you deserve recognition for these wonderful achievements. :)

19.01.2022 The Flourish Project - a timely and valuable contribution to the wellbeing of Australian educators. Well done Bob Willetts ~ so proud of you, your vision and your leadership of this wonderful project.

17.01.2022 If you need to keep your children at home for a time, here are some really helpful learning websites, put together by Sprouts Early Childhood Mentoring Consultants. :)

15.01.2022 Remarkable women who left a legacy of their learning for the world.

15.01.2022 It was such a privilege to attend the NAIDOC celebrations at Narromine Public and High School this morning and to share in a truly beautiful learning experience about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander language, spirituality, story and song. Our little town all of a sudden holds a much deeper and sacred meaning to me having learned more about our Wiradjuri history. Thank you to so many inspiring members of our community for today's celebration and for highlighting the critical importance of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander language. :)

12.01.2022 My son Jack is packing his bags this afternoon, ahead of a few days on camp in Baradine (outback NSW) as part of the 2017 Moorambilla Voices. He has been learning lyrics to exquisite music these past few weeks (some in Wiradjuri language), in preparation. Thank you to Michelle Maria Leonard and the Moorambilla Team for this AMAZING opportunity. If you are not familiar with the genius that is Moorambilla, take a look at the attached news segment or google the trailer to the film "Wide Open Sky" - what an incredible gift to rural children! :)

11.01.2022 Wishing both schools every success for this new journey. :)

05.01.2022 To inspire and be inspired.

02.01.2022 Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has. ~ Margaret Mead

02.01.2022 At 3am this morning, I started reading Madonna King's 'Being 14: Helping fierce teens become awesome women' (a text my daughter's school recommended in this week's school newsletter). I must say (and I'm only up to Chapter 4), it is incredibly insightful and pertinent to the myriad of complex issues facing today's generation of young teenage girls/women. It is well worth the read! After all, our daughters are growing up in a world completely foreign to the one in which we g...rew our wings in! As a mother (and a teacher), I continue to be shocked by 'what I don't know I don't know' about the world our children are learning to navigate their way through. Thankfully, there are experts out there helping to shine a light on these complexities, and guide us through our naivety. :) Here is a short radio interview with Madonna King, which highlights some of her research.
