25.01.2022 Yes it has been a while since we showed you what we have done over the last few weeks

24.01.2022 So after the ribbands are put on they are faired. Although the boat has been faired when it was lofted the battens from which the ribbands are made are not of very good quality wood and occasionally bend erratically. Here is Tom Blu the head shipwright.

23.01.2022 Our next project underway a Maine style Lobster Boat. She will be planked in Huon Pine on Celery Top Pine frames, stem and keel. A 330 hp Volvo diesel will power her to 20 plus knots swinging a 4 bladed propeller. We are also refurbishing a Fazackerly clinker dinghy including designing and fitting a new Spritsail rig. Busy days ahead.

22.01.2022 As the deck completes so it is time to start the cabin

22.01.2022 Jabiru is for sale. For me the project has run its course, it is time for me dedicate more time to our family yacht "Carefree" and to pursue other interests. A ...full photographic record is available as well as the boats history. She comes as a new boat with new Doyle sails, full hull restoration to the 12sqM association blue prints, a copy of which can be supplied with the boat. She comes with a registered trailer with new waterproof lights which is in excellent condition. The price is $5,000 not negotiable which is what she owes me in materials. See more

21.01.2022 So with the deck beams faired a concerted effort, the first layer of 9mm plywood was cut and fitted to the deck

21.01.2022 And after a little over four weeks the planking is complete

21.01.2022 From Celery Top Pine log to laminated stem and keel.

19.01.2022 The temporary moulds are stood up and the boat is starting to look like a boat

19.01.2022 In November, the custom made prop shaft was slid up the carbon fibre stern tube; a two man job of twisting and pushing. And the tanks were finally fixed in place.

18.01.2022 With the keel laid we are setting up the temporary building moulds and so a boat starts to take shape. The boys have worked hard to get to this stage with the loft floor taken up we have lots of more work space, after the Easter brake she will take shape shape rapidly.

17.01.2022 Splining and the deck

15.01.2022 The end of the working year has come and it is Christmas. The crew at Wilson’s Boat Yard wish all their friends, clients and suppliers a safe and happy Christmas and a wonderful 2020. We will see you next year!!!

14.01.2022 Once the ribbands are faired to the shipwrights satisfaction, we move onto the framing. Neilma Gs framing is Celery Top pine. For the more severe curves it is in two laminations whilst the easier curves get a single stick. Here Jay Lawry, boatbuilder, explains some of the process.

14.01.2022 The end of 2019

14.01.2022 The end of the working year has come and it is Christmas. The crew at Wilsons Boat Yard wish all their friends, clients and suppliers a safe and happy Christmas and a wonderful 2020. We will see you next year!!!

12.01.2022 It is a full two months since our last post and a lot has happened. The wheelhouse beams were laminated to camber and dry notched into the house sides. All the stainless fabricated diesel tanks and the plastic water, grey water and black water tanks were lifted in and plumbed

10.01.2022 Along side our major the dingy refurbishment is about finished, new sprit rig and sail finished, rudder rebuilt and new Centre board and case. Just a bit of varnish left to do and to bend on the new sail and go sailing.

10.01.2022 Yes it has been a while and now we are getting very close

10.01.2022 After lots of glueing up to make individual components we are ready to assemble them, this will come together as a single moulded back bone for the Boat from stem to transom . Today the main keel was laid on the building stocks, and as boatbuilders tradition demands the team cracked a couple of beers to mark the occasion. With the keel laid and the rest of the backbone parts being bolted and glued together she will quickly take shape.

09.01.2022 With framing completed we turn our attention to planking. The sheer strake is wider than the rest as it carries the rubrail and defines both the sweep of the sheer and also the line of the planks below. It is steamed for an hour before offering it into position.

08.01.2022 And in this old shed

08.01.2022 Completing the deck

07.01.2022 So here is a little video of Jay Lawry, boatbuilder, explaining the process of putting in the frames.

07.01.2022 First plank is steamed into place starboard forward sheer strake. The steam box with a good head of steam up for the port side sheer strake. The Celery Top Pine ribs sitting nicely on the ribbands which in turn are nice and fair to the section moulds, nice lofting guys. More posts as the planking progresses. Cheers Terry

04.01.2022 Planking of the hull is well underway

04.01.2022 And the true beauty of a wooden boat comes out

04.01.2022 Next ribbands are bent around the moulds. Onto these will be bent the steam bent ribs

02.01.2022 With the cabin sides it is time to close it in

02.01.2022 All of this had to be done prior to the motor going in. Bright and early one morning, a roofer arrived to remove a section of the roof. The engine arrived followed a crane. Half an hour later the motor was lowered through the roof, through the wheelhouse engine hatch and onto her beds

01.01.2022 Another major step

01.01.2022 With the hull just about complete work turns to the deck and inboard
