10.01.2022 Today is a sad day in the firearms industry. To say we are angry and offended would be an understatement. LRD has notified us that there will be a suspension of all firearm transactions including the sale, hire and loan of firearms and ammunition for the reasons of Sport or Target Shooting, Clay Target Shooting and Recreational hunting. This suspension, effective immediately, will remain for the duration of the COVID-19 emergency and we were only advised by email at 7-46am ...this morning but effective from Midnight last night. We are one of the most regulated industries and yet are being treated like criminals. To say there will be a rise in domestic violence because more people are buying firearms is a joke. Do these people not remember the stats on firearm users being amongst the most happiest people when it comes to mental health? How about the study from Psychology, Crime & Law journal called "Do members of shooting associations display higher levels of aggression?" Results - Shooters are less aggressive than non-shooters and the study also found that they showed less impulsive behaviours than non shooters. Or what about the dollar value we contribute to our country in firearm licenses, game permits and jobs. Hunting undertaken by shooters back in 2013 contributed $439 million to the Victorian economy. Imagine the figures now! The hunting industry supports 3,500 full time jobs directly and indirectly across Victoria. Just like that, they are now invalid. We are sorry for our customers who have now been left in the dark. We cannot sell firearms or ammunition unless you can prove you are a farmer.
