We were proud to show Mark what this looks like in action, and demonstrate how Winanga-Li is creating positive outcomes for Aboriginal children, families and communities.

11.01.2022 Weaving with Carol today. Local ladies sharing skills with community - this is what we love to see!

10.01.2022 History of Childrens Day In 1988, the first National Aboriginal and Islander Childrens Day was established on 4 August and was set against the backdrop of protests led by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and their supporters during the bicentennial year. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders peoples felt a day was needed to celebrate our children, to give them confidence and make them feel special and included. The date 4 August was historically used to communally celebrate the birthdays of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children who were taken from their families at a young age, without knowing their birthday the Stolen Generations.

08.01.2022 Yaama maliyaa, hello friends, Attached is a Word of the Week which I thought might be appropriate for this time of year! In fact there is no recorded word for hot, but it follows the pattern of other Yuwaalaraay and Gamilaraay adjectives based on wii meaning fire (both wii and wiiwii are also found in Wangaaybuwan language).... It is pronounced like wee wee.

08.01.2022 It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas at Quirindi Transition to School

08.01.2022 This week we have a new video of our greetings song Yaama Maliyaa, with lovely vocals from Tamworth singer Loren Ryan, and beautiful pictures from Winanga-Li in Gunnedah. YouTube link is here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bmpaKrBElgA To go with this, we have a Word of the Week nginda = you (1). As youll see from the song, Gamilaraay has different words for you if there is one person, two people, or three or more. So nginda is for one person only.... You may also like this greetings poster we made last year. If you would like a plastic-coated A3 version, or any other materials please contact Winanga-Li.
