25.01.2022 A little like waking sleeping giants from their slumber, "Jerry", "Marty", "Delilah" and "Elsie", the Erickson S-64 Air Crane helicopters, have now arrived int...o #Australia after their long voyage from #Greece aboard the BBC Chartering ship "BBC Leda". They join "Georgia Peach" and "Gypsy Lady" who are already in country. The arrivals will be established on the port at Geelong, Victoria prior to making their way to their operating bases in time for their contract starts during December in #Victoria, #SouthAustralia and #NewSouthWales. A MAMMOTH amount of work and planning has gone into getting the aircraft here this COVID impacted year, but the teams at Kestrel and Erickson Incorporated are getting the job done. Now to the job of fighting fires from the air and keeping #Australian communities safe! A huge thanks to Dave Soda from Aviation Spotters Online for the images! And the team involved in the unload late last night! #TeamKestrel #AirCrane #Helicopters #AustralianAviation #Aviation #Stevedoring #Logistics #Geelong #Maritime #Shipping #DELWP #EMV #CFS #NSWRFS #Helicopter #AHIA #NAFC #AirCrew #TeamWork #AerialFireFighting Essendon Fields Airport

19.01.2022 Fire restrictions look to be coming in on the 14th December. so you only have about 3 weeks to do any burn offs but just be careful as it's drying out very quickly. Make sure you check the weather forecast and if winds are high plan for another day.... In the township areas of the Surf Coast Shire, burning off of dried vegetation is permitted only on WEDNESDAY or SATURDAY between 10am-3pm outside the Fire Danger Period. And always register your burn with vic fire on 1800668511 Will save us a call out to false alarms. https://www.surfcoast.vic.gov.au/.../Burning-off-and-fire... https://www.cfa.vic.gov.au/plan-prepare/burning-off

14.01.2022 The New Winchelsea Ultra-Light story starts 22 years ago, when in late 1998 and after the Brigade fund raising efforts over many years as well as receiving many donations from Winchelsea businesses the Winchelsea Fire Brigade (with approval of the CFA) purchased a Toyota 4 x 4 Landcruiser. Under the guidance of the Brigade Captain , Harry Schroeter it was ‘fitted out’ in the Schroeter Bros garage with a 600 litres water tank that included an A Class foam system and other s...tandard minor equipment of the day. This new Brigade owned vehicle was called the Winchelsea ‘Quick Attack’. The Winchelsea Quick Attack was quickly put to use in and around the district. This Vehicle was also used a few times by the CFA as part of the Emergency Response Fleet at the then newly started International Air Show at Avalon. Four years passed when in 2002 the Brigade decided to change over the Toyota Landcruiser to the latest model for a very small change over fee. By this time the CFA were changing all of their Quick Attacks vehicle names to ‘Slip Ons’ This new Brigade owned Slip On had minor upgrade works carried out on the back during this change over period including storage lockers. During the next 18 years the Slip On served the Winchelsea Brigade , Group and District 7 proudly. During the next 18 fire seasons it was included into District 7 Strike Teams and was sent to all parts of the State, as well of trips to New South Wales and South Australia (including Kangaroo Island). In 2019 the Brigade discussed and decided to replace this now old ‘War Horse’ with a new modern version of this CFA vehicle, now called an ‘Ultra Light’. To enable the purchase the brigade applied for a VESEP Grant. In March 2020 the Brigades Grant VESEP submission was approved by the Victorian Government and the CFA for the Winchelsea Fire Brigade to change the Slip On over with the new modern CFA Ultra-Light. This vehicle is a Toyota 4X4 Land Cruiser with a 500 Litre Water Tank, and a fully automated A Class foam system. It comes complete with all hoses and fittings as well as a Stihl chainsaw and safety equipment.

12.01.2022 UPDATE. TOMORROW 20TH NOVEMBER AT 1PM-3PM. RICHARD RIORDAN HAS INVITED THE SHODOW MINISTER FOR EMERGENCY SERVICES TO VIEW THE TOWER AND DISCUSS THE SITUATION. ...WE AS A COMMUNITY NEED TO SHOW OUR SUPPORT. What is suggested is that concerned community members line the sides of Mooleric Road. PLEASE OBSERVE CURRENT COVID RESTRICTIONS. PARK SAFELY. Today we have had word that Mt Gellibrand fire tower will not be in use this upcoming fire season and will be decommissioned. This was not a decision from CFA. Taking away Mt Gellibrand fire tower leaves a huge gap and will be a huge loss for CFA as an early detection. There are also fire lookout towers, which form part of an early warning fire system, at Peters Hill, Mt Anakie and Mt Gellibrand Now Decommissioned . Not all towers can see each area and Peters hill can not see passed Mt Gellibrand leaving Hesse, Wingeel and all of District 6 (Colac and beyond) in a black spot area. Bushfire detection methods can be generally grouped into two distinct categories: 1. Volunteer reporting-public reporting (Triple 0), public aircraft, ground based field staff (agency and industry field staff) 2. Operational detection systems: fire towers, aerial patrols, electronic lightning detectors, automatic detection systems. A fire tower can form part of the decision on the outbreak of a fire and is critical to the immediate decision making process involved in initiating suppression. They can tell us how quick it is building, the direction its heading in, any possible homes in the way. All this gets taken into account even before trucks arrive. At this stage there is no plans to replace or repair the tower. So you tell me how you feel about this.

11.01.2022 Today we mark one year since the start of the devastating bushfires which deeply affected Victorian communities across the state. On 21 November, 2019 the first... ‘code red’ fire danger rating in almost a decade was declared in the Mallee and Northern Country, and dry lightning strikes in East Gippsland that started three fires which grew to a widespread bushfire disaster that burned for months. Today we reflect on the devastation and challenges that followed 21 November and the incredible support from all emergency services who came together to aid the communities impacted by the unprecedented fire season. 02.01.2022 Winchelsea brigade was paged to a Burn-pile today that had spread to grass and some round hay bales. Its a timely reminder that things can happen very quickly. Many people are now starting to clean up and prepare their property for the up coming fire season. Many thanks to Wurdale and Modewarre brigades for your assistance.
