16.01.2022 You will be surprised what we can achieve with telehealth (video-based consultations)! Recently Physiotherapist Jess worked with a family to fit a pre-schooler with a home seating system and stroller with assistive equipment. Tyler* has many complex needs and without the equipment struggles to sit up and hold his head upright. This means that he relies on carer support for all aspects of his self-care and is currently fed through a PEG feeding tube. During a telehealth cons...ultation Jess organised with the provider to deliver and fit Tyler with his new equipment. The provider was able to fit and deliver the equipment face to face while Jess worked with the provider and family via telehealth. This ensured that Tyler was comfortable and safe and the family also felt confident using the equipment. We are so pleased that since the new equipment was fitted that Tyler is much happier and enjoying more mobility. He can transfer more safely into his new chair and stroller, feels more confident and less tired and meal times go far more smoothly. Our specialist Early Intervention (EI) service assists young children, aged 7 years and under who have a disability or developmental delay to reach their full potential. 12.01.2022 Meet Jess our new physiotherapist in our Early Childhood & Therapy team and Graduate Development program I have always wanted to work in the paediatric space. I love being able to assist young children and support them and their families to do the things that are important to them. There are not many local allied health graduate programs that specialise in early childhood but I was lucky enough to apply and be accepted into Windermere’s graduate development program.... The graduate program offers a range of structured learning opportunities covering a very broad range of topics from sensory processing to Assistive Technology and developmental milestones. It’s also given me the opportunity to explore the benefits of the key worker model and deepen my understanding of working in conjunction with other allied health disciplines. This year, since COVID-19, we’ve been delivering telehealth (virtual appointments), which is not something we expected to do. Luckily I am part of a hugely supportive team, which helps ensure we can all provide the best support possible to the children and families we work with as well as each other." 08.01.2022 Bedtime is not always relaxing! Sarah, one of our early childhood practitioners, has been working with one family to make bedtime go more smoothly. Five year old Julia* was having a lot of difficulty settling down and going to sleep. She was having frequent meltdowns and lashing out at her parents.... Sarah worked with the family to adjust routines and introduce some wind-down time. This involved incorporating positive attention during the day and a half hour quiet time in Julia's bedroom with relaxing music. We are delighted to hear that Julia is now going to sleep happily and her parents are enjoying more relaxed evenings. Sweet dreams. *name changed to protect privacy

05.01.2022 We love these photos from one of our Family Day Care Educators, Jay. She offers Family Day Care (home based childcare) in Pakenham. I love working with small children. My priority is to make every child feel like they are welcome, safe and supported. Every child has a different learning style, and I make sure that daily activities match their interests and strengths. I teach according to the Early Years Framework and because of the small group, home-based environment I am ...able to offer the children many learning experiences. This includes group activities, story times, cooking, art and craft and nature play. Usually we go on regular outings, such as visits to play groups, nature walks and the library, although obviously those activities are on hold at the moment. Jay is diploma qualified and has taught in kindergarten and as a primary teacher. Jay has places available on weekdays, 6am 7pm. During stage 4 restrictions she is still able to offer care to permitted workers and vulnerable children. Contact our team to enrol or find out more.
