21.01.2022 Our new signage for the church and Thrift Shop. It was installed on Tuesday. What do you think?

21.01.2022 Tomorrow at our service we begin a new, six part sermon series that explores 'idolatry', based on the book by Kyle Idleman, "Gods At War". What is idolatry? Augustine's definition is a great one. He writes, Idolatry is worshipping anything that ought to be used or using anything that ought to be worshipped".

20.01.2022 Ecclesiastes will be our next sermon series over the next twelve weeks starting this Sunday. It will be a great series. It's a book Herman Melville, who wrote 'Moby Dick' regarded as the 'truest of all books', a book that resonates with many because of its provocative portrayal of life. Iain Provan, a scholar wrote that the message of Ecclesiastes is very applicable to us because the author's world is not so different from ours. "It is first of all a message for those who cli...ng still to the world of illusion, which daily and powerfully presented to us as substantial reality by our various media". The author dispels those illusions. "The universe is not comprehensible and malleable. We cannot make any lasting mark on it. We cannot by pursuing wisdom or wealth find fulfilment and joy. Death, in particular, mocks all attempts at elevation to divinity and the refusal to be mortal and human". "It is also a message fo those who understand all this and are looking for a different way of thinking and living". To such people, the author says, "Understand that God exists...OUr lives are a gift, offered for a short period and then taken back once again. Embrace life for what it is, rather than what you would like it to be. Live it out before God, reverencing and obeying him. This is the pathway on which joy lies, even though puzzlement and pain will also be found there, and there are never guarantees about how things will turn out". It will be a great series. You're more than welcome to join us in person or online. Just go to our website and fill out the contact page on our website and let us know your preference.

20.01.2022 We continue our sermon series on Ecclesiastes this morning. "Light is sweet, and it pleases the eyes to see the sun. However, many years a man may live, let him enjoy them all. But let him remember the days of darkness, for they will be many. Everything to come is meaningless. Be happy, young man, while you are young, and let your heart give you joy in the days of your youth..." (11:7-9a) We're going to learn from the Teacher (from Ecclesiastes) how to pre-empt a life of regret. We would love your company. Service starts @ 10am. We have saved 3 seats for you. First in best dressed!

19.01.2022 "A good name is better than fine perfume, and the day of one’s death than the day of one’s birth. 2 It is better to go to a house of mourning than to go to a house of feasting, since that is the end of all mankind, and the living should take it to heart. 3 Grief is better than laughter, for when a face is sad, a heart may be glad. 4 The heart of the wise is in a house of mourning, but the heart of fools is in a house of pleasure. 5 It is better to listen to rebuke from a wise...Continue reading

19.01.2022 Here is an English version of a South Korean produced children's song that's clocked up over seven billion views! Be warned this relentlessly repetitive but catchy song is the bane of parents and teachers worldwide. Have a listen and tell us what you think!

18.01.2022 "There is nothing better for a person than that he should eat and drink and find enjoyment in his toil" (Ecclesiastes 2:24). "Some say 'eat, drink, and be merry' because that's all there is; the Preacher says 'eat, drink, and be merry' because that's what there is. God has given the good things of this world to us, and they are their own reward. When we accept in a deep way that we are going to die, that reality can stop us expecting too much from all the good things we pursu...e. We learn to pursue them for what they are in themselves rather than what we need them to be to make us happy...When we know that the gift is not meant to be a stepping stone to greater things, when we realise we are not meant to rule the world, or master our destiny, or achieve ultimate gain through our careers, then we discover that enjoyment or joy is 'itself the reward that we may expect from life and all our effort expended in living it...There is no surplus to joy beyond joy itself There is indeed no pathway to joy except by refusing to pursue it and to grasp at it'". (David Gibson). We continue our new sermon series on Ecclesiastes this Sunday. Join us. If you are a guest/visitor, there is no need to book in advance. We've saved some seats for you. Come along. If you want to join us online, contact us via our website and we will give you the link to our zoom meeting.

17.01.2022 A beautiful day to sing a beautiful song! "Our sins are many but His mercy is more!"

16.01.2022 Our second onsite church service on Sunday. We were at full capacity with some folks being informed they couldn't come. That's a first in the church's 143 year old history! A good problem to have, for now! Our service was however life streamed but unfortunately there were some unforeseen audio issues which we are hoping to remedy before Sunday. If you're planning to attend in person, you will need to reserve your seat by 12pm on Friday.

16.01.2022 Not long to go now! Put the date in your calendar!

15.01.2022 Tomorrow at our service starting at 10am, we conclude our talks on Ecclesiastes. You are most welcome to join us. If you are a visitor, there is no need to sign up. We have 4 spots for you but send us a message though via Facebook. We will be looking at chapter 12:9-14. It's a mini commentary on the book itself. One of the objectives of the author for writing the book is to bring us pleasure. Verse 10 reads, "The Preacher sought to find words of delight, and uprightly he wro...te words of truth". David Gibson comments, "It is a sad irony that many find Ecclesiastes to be a gloomy and a pessimistic book...when it was actually written to bring us pleasure...How do you remember your Creator?...By listening to his words of delight and by finding them pleasurable...He is not a grumpy old man in how he wants us to live in the world, and he is not puritanical in the words he gave us to read that tell us about himself...What God gives us in the Bible are words of delight that tell us by the very way in which they are delightful what is true...you can measure whether you find the Bible delightful, not by how often you read it or by how much of it you read, and not by whether you find it easy or difficult to read, but by whether you approach the Bible expecting to be surprised. Bible delight is born when you expect it to teach you something you did not know already. The more childlike you are toward the Bible, the more likely you are to find it having just the right words for you... Marilynne Robinson is one of our finest living novelists. She has written three sumptuous novels, Gilead; Home; and Lila...Put them on your bucket list. In a separate collection of essays, she describes how she once found herself 'traveling all night to be home in time for church, and it occured to me to consider in what spirit or out of what need I would do cut a thing'. The reason, she says, is the magnetic pull of the Bible. Robinson has been immersed in the Bible since her youth, and yet, 'I do not understand the Bible...By grace of my abiding ignorance, it is always new to me. I am never not instructed'...She doesn't mean the Bible cannot be understood, but simply that because she comes to it with a certain view of herself, she is always expecting to learn. She is always expecting to hear something new. That is an attitude of the heart. It's childlike. She comes back to the Bible 'to have it opened for me again'. I think we can learn from her approach to learning".

12.01.2022 On a serious note, do remember to keep your pastors in your prayers! You can pray for the following for them: For their relationship with God to remain fresh and intimate. For God's wisdom and strength to lead their church community. For their spiritual, psychological and physical health.... For their marriage and family. For encouragement to keep going, to know their labour in the Lord is never in vain. For humility and self-awareness to recognise that self-care is essential for long term gain. See more

12.01.2022 Another renovation project completed. Thanks to Benga Designs for their great work. They also did the Thrift Shop signage in the front. A great company to deal with. For those who don't know Rev Thomas Leitch, he was the founding pastor of Windsor Road Baptist Church in 1877 and its longest serving pastor (52 years!). We salute the man and his faithfulness to God's call on his life.

11.01.2022 Join us this morning @ 10am as we make time to connect with God and with one another. If you're planning on a visit, you don't need to pre-book a seat. We've saved four seats for you. Come early though if you don't want to miss out. We continue our series on Ecclesiastes and we're looking at chapter 11:1-6. David Gibson writes, "In chapter 11, the Preacher asks us: Where do you stand to look at the things you don't know about life? What is your perspective on the things in yo...ur life that you cannot control? Now, everyone knows there are things we don't know. But the standard advice is to look at what is certain, to look at what we do know, and doing that will help us cope with what we do not know. But the perspective of Ecclesiastes is different and counterintuitive. The Preacher actually tells us to look at the things we know from the perspective of the things we don't know. Once we realize there are certain things we will never know, and once we realize we should stop trying to know them, it changes the way we think about the things we can know. The uncertainties of life are meant to have a shaping influence on the the certainties of life".

06.01.2022 Tomorrow at our Sunday Service starting at 10am we continue with our sermon series on Ecclesiastes. We will be exploring chapter 9:1-12. The theme is the pursuit of control. Our guest speaker will be speaking to us live via zoom from Singapore! He is a lecturer from Brisbane School of Theology. Here is an excerpt of Gibson's reflections on the passage from his book, 'Living Life Backward': "He wrote his book to smash into tiny pieces our idea that we can be like God. We aspir...e to have it all, know it all, do it all, achieve it all, be happy forever, have all the answers, never be left scratching our head, and be remembered by all for all time. But what guarantee is there that we won't go under a bus tomorrow? If you knew that would happen to you tomorrow, how would you live today? That is the whole point of Ecclesiastes. The life you have today comes from God's hand as a gift. You have it for a short while, and one day God will call time and take it back...So the question for us is: What does life of beauty and meaning and purpose look like...One the one hand, my death is certain; on the other hand, the timing of my death is uncertain. So what should life in the meantime look like?...His answer is very simple: life between now and then looks like a life lived well. If one day you will be dead, live today. If you do not know when you will be dead, live now, while you can. The path of wisdom along life's road it enjoy the gifts God has given you, the simple things that give you pleasure...God takes pleasure in our pleasure. He's given it to you. This is why we're touching the heart of Ecclesiastes. Gift not gain, is your new motto". See more

06.01.2022 Sunday Morning Worship

05.01.2022 Our first church service on Sunday! The last time we physically gathered was 18 Sundays ago!! It was a momentous occasion. Approximately 47 people turned up, including children. Given the size of our building we can accommodate 54 people, so you can argue we were nearly full! Those who couldn't come, they were able to join us via live stream. After so long, it was very special indeed to be in the same room, worshipping God in song together, hearing God's word together and cat...ching up with one another after the service. We also had a members' meeting immediately after. We had to postpone the one in May. Again, we had a lovely time, laughing, praying and discussing various issues together. Join us for this Sunday's service. Go to our website to register your attendance.

05.01.2022 Ever have mornings like this? Ben and Laura, something to look forward to with Bruce!

This is what Alpha Online is all about. The first session starts next Tuesday on the 18th Aug @ 7pm. To register, just email: [email protected]

02.01.2022 "Dear Lord, So far today, I am doing all right. I have not gossiped, lost my temper, been greedy, grumpy, nasty, selfish, or self-indulgent. I have not whined, cursed or eaten my chocolate. However, I am going to get out of bed in a few minutes and I need a lot more help after that! Amen!"
