19.01.2022 30 Years ago I was sitting on the beach at Hookipa after sailing when this guy wearing a suit came over and sat next to me. He had a strong German accent and asked if i could point out who Natalie Seibel was. He explained he was a movie producer from Hollywood looking to shoot some windsurfers on the big Island, he then opened a folder with drawings etc of windsurfers jumping out of helicopters and sailing through the lava flow where the Kilauea volcano meets the ocean. He... thanked me for helping him out and as he left invited me along so 2 days later I was at Hilo airport with a bunch of other crew off on an adventure which turned out to be one of the most surreal things i’ve witnessed. Also along was Angela Cockrane, Bruce Kendall, Barbara Kendal, Raphalle Salles and a few more but not sure of their names. Bruce was the first one to sail through the sulphur cloud so I went soon after but fell off and had trouble breathing so didnt do it again. Bruce was the only one who sailed up onto the beach as well but I could see lava nearby so wasn’t keen. We sat on the boat as sunset arrived, watching lava eruptions shooting about 20m into the air in the same place we were just sailing. See more

19.01.2022 So we went out for a sunset shoot at Leighton yesterday with Chris Adamson and his mate Craig but poor Chris broke a UJ more than a km out to sea and he couldnt save the rig so it's on the bottom of the ocean somewhere out there! UPDATE: Chris found his gear completely destroyed on the beach missing boom and extension, however they were later found hidden behind a bin nearby after a tip off. Photo in comments.

19.01.2022 When I started this page I vowed it would only have positive imagery of windsurfing and I wouldn’t get involved in any negative or political issue’s of this great sport. However, over the last few years windsurfing in Australia has been plagued by an issue that no-one wants to talk about let alone do anything about so the time has come for something to be done about it. The issue is cheating or what others call "dubious decisions. Cheating isn’t about letting someone’s fr...Continue reading

14.01.2022 This will be my last post on what it’s like dealing with Severne/Starboard so hopefully no more negative posts ever. This one is a cracker: I was contacted by Simon who worked for Severne at the time and they wanted me to give them a hi-res photo of the start of Lancelin for their brochure (not the photo pictured) , I said no but he kept asking and I kept saying no. Then Ben (Severne) contacted me wanting the photo but I refused to let them have it for free but he wouldn’t ta...Continue reading

12.01.2022 So this is the document that Severne was hoping nobody would ever see and only a handful of people have seen. For years people have been asking why would Lancelin spend over $100,000 on photography when they had someone doing it for free! For those who didn’t know: The Lancelin event years ago was in financial crisis, there were only about 80 competitors each year and there was even talk of it folding so I mentioned to the organiser that the easiest and quickest way of impro...Continue reading
