24.01.2022 Bring it on !!! https://www.facebook.com/108878629136279/posts/4151216304902471/

24.01.2022 The Prime Minister advised on Tuesday night that outdoor play centres should close. These measures align with that ruling. By their nature, the facilities closing today encourage congregations of people in large numbers or enclosed spaces, and thats something we all must avoid at the moment. Under the closures, playgrounds and other facilities with fencing will be locked, with electrical supply switched off for public barbecues.... Signs will be erected at other open playgrounds, advising of the closure. We cant physically shut off every playground and other facility that falls under these new arrangements, but we urge the community to take heed of them, for everyones sake, Mr Hughes said. Shared pathways, public jetties, boat ramps and open green space will remain open, with social distancing. We will continue to review the situation and take advice from the Australian Government and NSW Health, making decisions accordingly, Mr Hughes said. Obviously, the aim is to get these facilities reopened to the community as soon as possible, but right now the absolute priority is public health and reducing the spread of COVID-19 in our community.

14.01.2022 I have received advice from the office that the ban on recreational fishing has been overturned. Legal advice has just been issued confirming that fishing has been classified as passive exercises and therefore as long as social distancing and public gathering rules are complied with it can continue. This is a win for commonsense and will no doubt make a lot of people very happy.... The overall advice for people is to remain at home unless it is necessary but if you need to fish, you are now able to do so.

12.01.2022 Listen: White spot special Dr Stephen Wesche talks to Costa about the role we all have when dealing with biosecurity outbreaks, such as white spot disease in prawns. Something like white spot can impact both the environment and more directly our fishing and aquaculture industries.... The important thing for people to remember is just to be aware. When they see something that doesn’t look right, by all means, give us a call, let us know, take a photo, because a really important component is earlyawareness, early notifications. 02.01.2022 "White Spot is back" When are the Government going to "STOP IMPORTING GREEN PRAWNS" this is the question It just takes one prawn with white spot to get into NSW... 21 April 2020 White spot disease found in South East Queensland again White spot disease has returned to South East Queensland more than three years since the disease was first detected. Biosecurity Queensland undertook routine surveillance for white spot syndrome virus in Moreton Bay last month with mangrove swimming crabs returning positive for the disease. Subsequently, samples from two prawn farms on the Logan River in South East Queensland also returned positive for the disease which devastated seven prawn farms in 2016. Biosecurity Queensland will review all prawn farms to ensure future on-farm biosecurity management is appropriate in dealing with this new detection. This is the second year of production for three prawn farms but the first time white spot disease has been detected again on-farm. Queensland was only months away from obtaining proof of freedom two years of consecutive negative results for white spot syndrome virus. The prawn and crab samples first tested positive at Biosecurity Sciences Laboratory in Brisbane and confirmatory testing was carried out at the Australian Centre for Disease Preparedness (ACDP) in Victoria. Biosecurity Queensland representatives will meet with members of the Aquatic Consultative Committee on Emergency Animal Disease this week to discuss the new detections and ongoing management options for white spot syndrome virus. White spot disease is a highly contagious viral infection that affects crustaceans, prawns and crabs, but it is not harmful to human health and seafood from Queensland waters are safe to eat. White spot disease movement restrictions remain in place for raw prawns, yabbies and marine worms from Caloundra to the New South Wales border and west to Ipswich.

01.01.2022 PLEASE SHARE IF YOU LOVE FISHING!! HELP THE INDUSTRY... Frequently asked questions What is white spot disease? White spot disease is a highly contagious viral infection that affects crustaceans such as prawns, crabs and yabbies. When found in high intensity production areas, such as prawn farms, white spot disease results in the rapid mortality of prawns. The white spot virus does not affect people, fish or other marine animals and is primarily spread by infected animals and contaminated water. How can I help? Dont move raw prawns, yabbies and marine worms out of South East Queensland. If using prawns as bait only use Australian wild-caught prawns purchased from a bait supplier or catch your own. Dispose of unwanted crustacean waste into a rubbish bin and not into our natural waterways. Report prawns you suspect may have white spot disease to Biosecurity on 13 25 23 What should I do if suspect white spot disease? Suspected cases of white spot disease must be reported to Biosecurity immediately. Take note of the location and time, freeze a sample if possible and report this information by calling us on 13 25 23 https://youtu.be/GRvqrnmP-2M
