23.01.2022 Smooth, dark-fruited purity 2018 Jed Malbec, Mendoza Argentina dried bay leaf, rosewater, violets, Turkish tobacco, juicy plum, black cherry, cacao, sumac slippery, glycerol texture and spicy mid-palate. Malbec also called Côt from a high alt. alpine sites in the Uco Valley in the foothills of the Andes mountains. Two sub-appellations La Consulta and Alta Mira at the southern extreme of Mendoza at 1150 m. From the village of Trilofos in the foothills of Vermio mountain in Macedonia, Northern Greece Naoussa DO winemaker Apostolos Thymiopoulos’ family have been growing in Naoussa for several generations, but he is the first to vinify. 04.01.2022 Sweet & sour orange 2020 Momento Mori ‘Staring at the Sun’ such sweet, almost confectionary aromas give way to fresh, savoury palate musk stick, ripe peach, rosewater, lemon barley cordial, then into blood orange, haybale, crab-apple, saline, cheesy lees lots of lip-smacking layers. Momento Mori is Latin for ‘remember you must die’ not sure if they mean ‘respect life’, ‘live as if today was your last,’ or ‘don’t get too full of yourself’ anyway, it’s really good, ...fastidiously made natural wine. Dave Johns & Hannah are based in Gippsland on the steep hillsides of Strzelecki Ranges but this fruit comes from Chalmers famous alt varieties vineyard in Heathcote. Fiano, Vermentino, Moscato, Giallo. 01.01.2022 Sappy, ripe, herbal 2019 Izway ‘Rob & Les’ Barossa Valley Shiraz silky, savoury, vibrant blackcurrant, blackberry bramble, maraschino cherry, blood plum, tomato leaf, thyme, green peppercorn. Visited the cellar door a few years ago very cool, minimalist cellar door, alongside their off-grid winery, down the beautiful palm-lined Seppeltsfield Road. Winemakers Craig Isbel and Brian Conway met in 2002 during vintage at Chateau de Bluizard, Beaujolais. They named this wine... after their granddads, fun-loving and just serious enough. Grown in a classic vintage 2019 lower yields, fine tannin, high aromatics. On Hoffmann vineyard in Ebenezer, the original Kalleske Hillside vineyard, and Kalleske Bruce vineyard.
