25.01.2022 Borgogno's 2016 Barolos Link in bio! winedecoded.com.au/noname/ Some wines speak to you, drawing you into the glass!... The first wines I drank from Borgogno would be described as rustic often with edgy tannins. With one foot firmly planted in history the estate has evolved to a place where the rustic is now refined, the textures supple, and a good deal of sophistication has come to fruition. I love the contrast in the two images with the old school winemaking kit and the modern concrete fermenters and destemmer. The Bad News the 'No Name' is already SOLD OUT! The Good News the Normale has a larger production! 2016 Borgno Barolo $104ea, $99ea in any 3+, $94ea in any 6+ I have the pleasure of seeing many side by side comparisons. Tasting the ‘No Name’ next to the Normale from 2016 was a beauty of a duo. The comparison showed just how much Borgogno has evolved over the last decade. Keeping a foot firmly planted in history the wines are still made in a traditional way with longer contact with skins and ageing in large oak. Cellar practices and tannin management have been refined yielding wines of fruit expression with supple textures and a good deal of sophistication. Some wines have a personality that just draws you in. This is one of those wines. It’s the development with freshness, early expression with plenty more to come, layering of flavours and tannins filled with complexity. Like the ‘No Name’ it has beautifully shaped. Red fruits and spice with a flowers lift from the glass, a lovely fruit weight plays perfectly with the wonderfully textured tannins and juicy acid. An absolute cracker punching above it’s weight for the coin! #Barolo #DrinkIt #DecodeIt #WineDecoded #Nebbiolo #Borgogno #WineHacker #WineMaking #WineLife #RealWine #Wine

18.01.2022 Domaine Marcel Deiss This is what happens when you stand in the arena, stare down the lion and win! The Deiss wines of Alsace represent some of the most singular, unique wines I've tasted in the last few years.... Patterns and habits are created day after day, year after year, decisions are made around us that can influence us for decades, for centuries. There are 13 permitted varieties in Alsace, yet 61 are endemic to the region, each has 100's of clones, yet, one clone of Riesling has spread throughout most of Alsace creating a monoculture. If a single clone gives uniformity and simplicity, how can it possibly offer complexity, intrigue, the full potential and, personality of a vineyard? How long will it take to build diversity again? The life cycle of vineyards is measured in decades. If you don't have real conviction in your beliefs you'll never have a remote chance of realising your dreams. Jean-Michel and Mathieu Deiss stand in the Arena! If you're expecting to taste the typical you won't, you need to take a step back to the basics. What makes a good drink? What defines a great drink? Drinking the labours of the Deiss family is inspiring. The deep thought and willingness to stand at odds with the powerbrokers of the French wine industry shows a level of conviction that most are not willing to even consider. This conviction sees them pushing biodiversity and biodynamics in the vineyard well beyond the point most have stopped. Key to this, complantation, explored in detail below. Complantation is the art of mixing grape varieties in a terroir. It is the oldest form of viticulture known before the appearance of clones and the depletion of biodiversity. It ensures regular harvests by creating a complex and naturalist ecosystem. The vineyards is planted with the 13 Alsatian grape varieties. Deiss, father and son, show a level of conviction well beyond that of most. The end result is wines that shine bright in a sea of standardised dross. Today we offer a set of intoxicating whites: 2 x dry village level wines, 2 x 1er Cru level and 2 x Grand Cru. #complantation #fieldblend #vindalsace #marceldeiss #realwine #winedecoded #winemaker #winemaking #wine
17.01.2022 Luigi Oddero are Smashing it Out of the Park! https://winedecoded.com.au/shop/winery/figli-luigi-oddero/... The 2017 Barbaresco Rombone is a Stunner, the 2016 Barolo Normale Superb! Can't wait to try the Rocche Rivera! Magnums Museum Barolo Rocche Rivera from 2004 & 2010 & a pretty sharp Freisa++ are up for Grabs Too! The divine textures and harmony of these wines are just the beginning! Since 1878 the Oddero family has been synonymous with tradition and high quality Nebbiolo wines from the Langhe’s top vineyards, and it was in 1951 when brothers Giacomo and Luigi Oddero began bottling their family’s wines. Like so many of the great estates of the world Luigi Oddero, although, born only recently, through a family divide, has an incredible history. Once a combined estate with Oddero, Luigi went his separate way, taking with him an incredible set of vineyards across 32 hectare of prime vineyards, including Castiglione Falletto’s Rocche dei Rivera & Serralunga d’Alba’s Vigna Rionda. The 2013 Luigi Oddero Vigna Rionda is one of the best Barolos I've had the chance to devour ... and , I've devoured an ocean of the stuff! Like all of their wines, it is all about perfume, texture & harmony! We have an Exceptional parcel of wines on offer 2019 Freisa 2017 Langhe Nebbiolo 2017 Barbaresco 'Rombone' 2016 Barolo 750ml & Magnum 2016 Rocche Rivera Magnum 2010 & 2004 Rocche Rivera Museum Release #winedecoded #drinkit #decodeit #makeit #barolo #nebbiolo #freisa #RoccheRivera #Rombone #winehacker #winemaker #winemaking #winelife #realwine

14.01.2022 Gianfranco Soldera’s Sangiovese winedecoded.com.au/sangio Enjoy the full on site and much more.... Call me on 1300 811 066 if you have any questions! You almost don’t have to drink it the aroma is that good. Incredible complexity, layering, beautifully refined, perfectly developed, yet youthful. Soldera’s wine have a level of precision that you rarely see. I can see why others have picked Grand Cru Burgundy as an option in blind tastings. Incredibly sophisticated, yet with such divine lingering flavours. Hopefully, I’ll see another bottle in the glass soon! 2015 has produced some of the best wines ever to come out of Montalcino. Soldera is one of the very best vignerons. The detail in every step of the process is incredible, perfectly balancing science, nature, and art. This is the last wine Gianfranco saw all the way to bottle prior to his premature passing in 2019. Thankfully, his family and skilled team continue their and his work! 09.01.2022 Sandro Fay's 2016's Such intoxicating perfumes & layered textures! Link in Bio! winedecoded.com.au/fay/... Only a few years ago the wines of Valtellina in Lombardy were largely unknown in Australia. In that short period the region has proven itself to produce beautiful, sophisticated wines full of personality. Today we offer 2 wines from Sandro Fay & the Valgella sub-zone. The Wines 2016 SandroFay Valtellina Superiore 'Costa Bassa' $54ea, $51ea in any 3+, $48ea in any 6+ Loads of pleasure here, the harmony, and, the inviting, drink me, nature of the wine is just the beginning. It really has every thing in all the right places. Such beauty! Loads of pleasure here, the harmony, and, the inviting, drink me, nature of the wine is just the beginning. It really has every thing in all the right places. Delicacy and power in one. Vibrant, crunchy, proper thirst-quenching vino here! Purity of fruit, superb fine texture. This is a classic that you can hoover any day of the week and twice on Saturdays. Layered around the red cherry core of fruit their is a dark beast lurking at the edges adding enticing complexity. The saline characrter PJ mentioned is there, the alpine thing is there. 2016 SandroFay Valtellina Superiore Riserva 'Carteria' $105ea, $100ea in any 3+, $95ea in any 6+ Grace under pressure. The purity, line & length, and, expression of this wine is exceptional. Where the 2016 Costa Bassa drinks so beautifully out of the gate. 2016 Carteria steps up the depth, length and layering, this will be superb. Brooding and a little darker than the Costa Bassa, it's not just depth of flavour, but depth of tannin that shine. A little patience will yiled a treasure! The textures, harmony and pleasure Sandro Fay are dishing up is exceptional. This will undoubtedly hit the same prices of the Ar.Pe.Pe Riservas in the coming years. About SandroFay Like many producers in this region, Sandro Fay focuses on Chiavennasca (named after the nearby town of Chiavenna) the region’s speciality and their unique expression of Nebbiolo. In recent times, global pressures have encouraged Valtellina producers to re-label their wines as Nebbiolo In my opinion, a real shame! Almost
05.01.2022 Pertimali's Point 2016 Brunello Link in Bio! winedecoded.com.au/unicorn/ All of the reviews, thoughts on the 2016 vintage and more are on site!... The 2015 is epic! Just what will we make of the 2016! A note on the 2015 before we sink our teeth into the 2016 ... I’ve had the pleasure of devouring the 2015 Brunello a number of times now. As it opens the flowers come, the dusty tannins layer in and harmonise, the core of red fruit shows itself and you see the depth and length that separate Brunello from Rosso. Licks of woody herbs and a little sappiness come through, while the acid offers freshness, helping with the line and length of now impeccable tannins. It has loads more to come here with more time in bottle. A wonderful expression of Brunello! If you want to try the 2015 to get your eye in go nuts! Decant it, be patient and taste it blossom! I can't wait to get my laughing gear around the 2016! ...the 2016 Brunello di Montalcino the best young wine I can remember ever tasting from this estate. Eric Guido Pertimali's Wines These continue a tradition of really native Montalcino wines, quite nervy and essentially elegant wines with that distinct smoky, coffee-grounds, char and licorice Montosoli thing. The combination of the finesse and persistence of its northern Montalcino site, on the fabulous Montosoli slope, with an ability to get ripeness, results in a wine with both the gamey/leather/mushroom/tobacco persona and the black fruits, vegemite and graphite, tighter elements. Unlike maybe most Brunello, which can often perform quite quickly at table well at least much faster than say Barolo! these do need a bit more air. What you get are layers of the characters mentioned and in fascinating waves, persistent and re-appearing. Once again another Cracker from The Slopes of Montoso This really is a special site, that proves itself again and again across the suite of excellent producers that hold parcels on the slope. 2016 Livio Sassetti Pertimali Brunerllo di Montalcino $166ea, $159ea in any 3+, $152ea in any 6+ ***Pre-Arrival due March*** #winedecoded #drinkit #decodeit #brunello #brunellodimontalcino #sangiovese #winehacker #winelife
