17.01.2022 Lockdown and the wine industry A new Emergency Management (Stay at Home) (COVID-19) Direction 2020 was issued last night at 11.59pm by the South Australian Police Commissioner. The intent of the Direction is to ensure that all people in South Australia stay at home during the six day lockdown, with the small exception of essential workers. ... Only very few industries and services can continue to operate unaffected and it is not business as usual for the wine industry. Non-essential work includes cellar door sales, sales representatives, vineyard work which is not of an essential nature, restaurant and hospitality staff, functions and events staff and general maintenance which is not of an essential nature to prevent damage or loss. Essential work includes viticulture activities such as irrigation and spraying that cannot wait six days or would result in crop damage/loss and also includes any work that is necessary to prevent damage or loss at a factory or facility, such as a winery. Masks must be worn outside the home. For further information about the Emergency Management (Stay at Home) (COVID-19) Direction 2020 and the wine industry, members can phone SAWIA on 8222 9277.
