25.01.2022 Good morning everyone, have a good week and remember, you don’t have to be big (or even real) to be seen to be top dog!
24.01.2022 The sky was a bit foreboding but all the adolescents got an awesome Playday yesterday.
23.01.2022 We’re loving swimming in the dam... just need to watch out for flying creatures overhead!
21.01.2022 We jumped straight back in to ‘work’ and are loving all these fabulous fur creatures.
21.01.2022 A shiny new phone and some lovely shiny new dogs
20.01.2022 Hard at work taking your upcoming bookings so please keep them coming...we are open from Friday November 20 and normal playdays will resume the following week. (Any guesses where we are?)
18.01.2022 A dam good day! Maggie practices her new sport of dock diving, tiny Pixie meets a new big friend and wee Oscar cooks up a storm with Ros.
18.01.2022 There’s some seriously good swimmers here this Saturday, from the tiny Tonto terrier to giant bull arab Oscar, five water-crazy spaniels, a boxer and a kamikaze sausage...
14.01.2022 Everyone’s splashing out today yaaay
13.01.2022 When your ancestors have been guarding sheep night & day since 100BC, it’s a pretty big ask to have you come and do such a ‘trivial’ thing as play. But 13 week-old Maremma Bear’s new friends are soft and gentle and we think he actually might be having fun, what do you think?
12.01.2022 We miss your dogs & cats so much, we have spent much of our holiday finding substitutes...on beaches, wallpaper & highways, at dog training, in art galleries, public toilets, pubs or just having a nice peaceful stroll until we came along...so lovely to see so many much-loved dogs in our beautiful country. See you soon!
12.01.2022 Use your Manners! The Sniff test - Stop doing that! The sniff test - a badly engrained habit that society has been taught, without a clear understanding of ...what they're actually doing. When you reach out towards a dog, you are using body pressure AT them, giving them no time to assess whether you are safe & whether they require further investigation to pick up your information. You are forcing an interaction of a relationship that hasn't had time to develop. To some dogs, this is quite rude & the reason a lot of dogs snap at or bite people. This can cause alot of behavioral issues because of layered stress due to forced interactions. If they are on lead, they have no where to go if they are sensitive to spacial pressure, so can end up shutting down, shying away or snapping at your hand so you back off. This is an example of how a dog is now using pressure to turn off pressure & make you back off so they aren't so stressed. People think by offering your hand it can give the dog time to sniff to know you're friendly... they can sniff without being forced to sniff your hand.Their noses are far more superior than ours & they don't need close contact forced upon them to smell you. Some dogs might not want to know you. You have no relationship with them and that's perfectly fine. They aren't your dog so you don't need to touch them or steal pats for your own satisfaction. If you are meeting a dog, what should you do? Ask the owner if you can interact with their dog. Not all people want strangers touching their dogs. Especially strangers who you are unlikely to see again. Stand up straight & relaxed, with your hands at your side. Ignore the dog & talk to the owner. Don't stare at the dog & don't try to force an interaction by going in for a pat. If the dog wants to know you, it will come up to you & sniff around. Usually they will move away & then come back for a second sniffathon. Some dogs will bunt your hands & wag their tails, which are good signs that you're likely an accepted new friend. Give them a few slow pats down their back (NOT THEIR HEAD) & then stop. Is the dog happy? Has it accepted your interaction? This will determine whether you can give it more pats. This is a more stress free option for dogs & a reason why in consultations we can develop a good level of trust, especially with fearful dogs & aggressive dogs, without a bunch of negative side effects from forced interactions.

05.01.2022 Well here we are...on holiday!
05.01.2022 Hi everyone, Maggie here. Just a reminder that Mum & Dad are taking annual leave from Oct 20-Nov 20 so we can’t look after any of you then. But after that, they’ll be working night & day right through Xmas & the school hols, so book in now by texting Ros on 0414 198857 if you would like to stay any day from Nov 20. Thanks!
03.01.2022 Mum & Dad told us we were going on our summer holiday but so far it’s been pretty dull and I’m just sitting at home freezing in my winter outfit! Mum & Dad are excited the weather is so awful as they have laid seeds & trailer loads of soil around the kennels. Dad has slept in a bit for the first time in 6 months so that was good except when he started playing the drums when I was trying to sleep. When she’s not cleaning, decluttering and finding photos of herself with Boris... and other dogs from decades ago, Mum is getting up at ungodly hours and putting her nose in complex dog behaviour books to try to work out why I’m so naughty I think, but all a need is to have my playmates back! The most exciting thing for me was very nearly getting a entire bowlful of won ton soup! It is awful quiet here and we all miss you terribly. But they tell me we need to rest so we can have lots of energy for you all for the next 6 months straight. Mum says all good things come to sausages who have good impulse control so I will try to be patient and live in hope that we actually get away and have some fun in the sun sometime soon. Thank you for being so kind and wishing us well on our break, we know it is very inconvenient for all you dogs who love playdays but at least we will be back in plenty of time for you to come and play for the Xmas holidays! Love and hugs to you all, Maggie Xxxx
03.01.2022 We’re gonna miss all this fast and furious fun!
01.01.2022 Welcome to a wonderful wet & wooly Wednesday!
