25.01.2022 Normally at this time of year, you see us conduct our annual doorknock. Given the generosity of the community during the past fire season and considering the hard times the current pandemic has brought to many families, we have decided to do a letterbox drop of our calendar instead of the normal doorknock. If you would still like to donate, options are included with the calendar, or you can private message us for details.... Once again, thank you for your support and generosity.

24.01.2022 The Huntley Grange hazard reduction is in. Crews have worked hard to put the burn in and to mop it up. A NPWS drone has flown over the burn area this afternoon, allowing confirmation that the area is secure. For your safety please keep out of the burnt area. Falling branches and trees may occur for sometime and may be hazardous. The public walking tracks surrounding the burn will remain closed for now. ... A big thank you to the surrounding residents who allowed access through their properties. Thank you to firefighters from NSWFR and brigades from surrounding districts and Blue Mountains for getting the HR in and secure. Also, thanks to BMCC staff for their assistance. The burn will be patrolled for some days. Small amounts of smoke may be visible from time to time coming up from the centre of the burn area. Should you see an unattended fire please call triple zero.

13.01.2022 Fact: Your safest option is to leave early. A bush fire can be a terrifying situation, intense heat and flames will make you tire quickly, it will be difficult to see and breathe. You may become confused or disorientated. Powerlines and fallen trees can block roads and make driving dangerous. It’s always better to leave early, before the fire arrives. Visit myfireplan.com.au and make a bush fire survival plan, it will help you make important decisions like when to leave or what you need to be prepared to stay. #getreadyweekend

05.01.2022 Winmalee and Faulconbridge RFBs undertook some joint motor vehicle accident training with Blue Mountains Police Rescue yesterday. It was valuable training, with RFS members training in fire protection, casualty assistance skills, and supporting Police Rescue whilst they undertake their rescue role. Thank you to Blue Mountains Police Rescue, we really appreciate the great working relationship.

04.01.2022 We would like to congratulate the 7 people awarded the Blue Mountains Citys highest honour - ‘Free Citizens of the City’ today. Amongst those awarded was Superintendent Greg Wardle who was the Incident Controller for the bushfires that occurred in the mountains during 2019/20. Greg was supported by an incident management team, which included colleagues from NPWS and NSW Fire and Rescue. One of the Deputy Incident Controllers was RFS Inspector Rob Vinzenz. Rob was also one of the 7 to be recognized today. Rob is a strong supporter of Blue Mts RFS volunteers all year round and tirelessly devotes his time to the coordination of the district. 03.01.2022 Tuesday 4 May 2021 is St Florian's Day, a very special day for those in the firefighting family. St Florian’s Day is named after the Patron Saint of firefighters and is traditionally the day where we come together to recognise our volunteers and staff who have gone above and beyond showing incredible acts of bravery in protecting the community or delivering the highest level of commitment to the Service that is worthy of special recognition. In all cases, the recipients are... nominated by their peers, which makes receiving an award on St Florian’s Day even more significant and special. Please join us to recognise our members as worthy recipients of the Commissioner’s Certificate of Commendation (Unit), along with all the recipients of awards and thank them for their ongoing commitment to the Service and the community. Details of all recipients can be found https://www.rfs.nsw.gov.au/news-and-me/st-florians-day-2021
