23.01.2022 Hi Folks This season we are going with three "Winstead Wine and Woodfire" days. We are opting for event style occasions and hope to make them memorable. December 3rd (Sunday)... This will be our annual Christmas gathering. This has proven to be very enjoyable in the past, especially for pre Chrissy gatherings for work groups, church groups and family/friend groups. It's also a great chance to pick up a few pressies for the Christmas stocking. January 7th (Sunday) We intend to make this a "Rock Your Socks Off Day". We are planning to have a band along to accompany your pizza and wine. March 3rd and 4th (Saturday and Sunday) This is the annual Wine Weekend, where we are open both Saturday and Sunday for wine sales, tastings and of course the woodfired oven will be in full swing with the Quartermasters Arms crew doing wonders with the food. Put these in your diary so you don't forget. We'll send you a gentle reminder the week prior. Cheers Snarey and Stu
22.01.2022 We are ready and raring to go. Open today and tomorrow for tastings and sales, 10am til 5pm. Mouth watering food from the wood fired oven 12 noon til 4pm both day also. Cheers
22.01.2022 Sunday's weather looks like it's going to be a ripper of a day. Perfect to sit, relax and enjoy a bit of Stu and his crew's Woodfired Goodness washed down with a refreshing Winstead wine. It's great chance for a pre-Chrissy get together with friends, family and/or workmates. Be aware that with the road works in progress in Bagdad at the moment, the entrance to Winstead Rd is somewhat obscured behind the bridgeworks over Bagdad Creek. So be careful when turning right off the h...ighway. You really should book: 0429 686 417 (or just reply to this email!!) 4th December, Winstead Road, Bagdad 12- 4 Transport Want to come but don't want to drive? If we get enough interest we can put a bus on for only $20 return - a great way to have a stress free day in the vines! Cheers Snarey & the Quartermasters crew
19.01.2022 Sadly we will not be operating our Woodfire and Wine days this coming summer. Our usual caterers, Tasman Quartermasters, will not be available. Rather than offer something second rate, we have decided to finish on a high. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Stu and his crew from TQ, for the sensational job they have done over the many years. His creative nature kept everyone guessing as to what would be on the next menu. Noel's sour dough, made using the "Winstead ...Wild Yeast" from our winery, was always a pleasure to behold, and Marijke's watchful eye always kept everything running smoothly. (Well most of the time!) Lastly, thank you all, for your support and friendship over the years. This doesn't mean you can't get your supply of Winstead wines. We are only a phone call or text away, or visit our web page, www.winstead.com.au and hit the Purchase tab. Cheers Snarey and Julieanne.
18.01.2022 The Quartex is going woodfired at Winstead Vineyards this weekend. Take a stroll through the vineyard - try some wines that are cellar door only & enjoy what we can do with 400 degrees of rage & fury. You really should book cause it gets a little crowded: 0429 686 417 (or just reply to this post!!) Winstead Road, Bagdad 12- 4... Transport Want to come but don't want to drive? If we get enough interest we can put a bus on for only $20 return - a great way to have a stress free day in the vines! Vineyard The Vineyard is going nuts as the vines bolt for the sky and prepare for flowering in the next two weeks. This is the point where all winemakers pray for light breezes to protect the potential crop. Cheers Snarey & the Quartermasters crew
17.01.2022 This weekend is the annual Open Vineyards Weekend, and Winstead will be open for wine tastings and wine sales both Saturday and Sunday, from 10am till 5pm. Our pizza oven will be fired up and the crew from Quartermasters Arms will be there to tantalize your taste buds with their woodfired goodness on Sunday only, from noon till 4pm. Our Gold medal winning 2016 Lot 16 Pinot will have its first showing, and for those who did not join us in January, it will be your chance to sip... our new Rose'. As we are only offering food on Sunday I recommend you book a table as it will be busy. Call 0429686417 to make a booking. Cheers Snarey and Stu
16.01.2022 Pinot Shop review of the 2014 Winstead Pinots. See them this weekend at the vineyard. Saturday and Sunday 10am - 4pm. Are these the best ever? Winstead's 2014 Lot 7 & 16 The 2014 Winsteads had their first public outing in Perth, and wowed the crowd, including your scribe who was also tasting them for the first time.... Every vintage of the Winstead duo has been fantastic, and the wines inspire great devotion. It is extraordinary to imagine that this pair may surpass all the other vintage releases, but I believe they do. And the price is still a modest $42ea for both wines. 2014 Winstead Lot 16 Pinot Noir $42, SIX $245 + FREE FREIGHT: I always taste Lot 16 first as it is such a joyous expression of pinot noir and it gives you such a lift. This is no different; the generous bouquet bouncing right out of the glass with such energy. There's softness here too, and richness and it slips and slides like silk over the palate. 2014 Winstead Lot 7 Pinot Noir $42, SIX $245 + FREE FREIGHT: Perceptively darker in colour, with deep crimson and purple hues. Dark and brooding aromas and flavours, and richly intense. It is glossy and luscious, with fine-grained tannins aiding the sense of structure and lingering flavours. It is a big pinot but is superbly balanced. For those of you unfamiliar with the Winstead Vineyard, it has been established for nearly three decades at Bagdad in Tasmania's southern Midlands. Owner Neil Snare makes the wine with indigenous yeasts. The Lot 16 block shares a similar clonal mix to the Lot 7, but the aspect captures cooling afternoon breezes, thus retaining more perfume in the wine.
16.01.2022 Winstead Wine & Woodfire Sunday 4th December Hi Folks... A gentle reminder that the December Woodfire and Wine is Sunday 4th December. Believe it or not that's Sunday week. A great chance for a pre-Chrissy get together with friends, family and/or workmates.
14.01.2022 We would like to thanks everyone for their support and friendship over the past year, and hope you all have a happy and safe Christmas and New Year. We will not be opening the first Sunday in January as it is New Years day, and Stu and I might still be at sea, or if not, recovering from being at sea. (We are entering our boat "Winstead Wines" in this years Launceston to Hobart Yacht Race. You can follow our progress on the tracker by following the link http://yb.tl/l2h2016 ....) The next "Woodfire and Wine" will be the Wine Weekend, the first Saturday and Sunday in March. Remember to drink in moderation and don't drink and drive. Cheers and a Happy Christmas Snarey & the Quartermasters crew
13.01.2022 Everything is ready at Winstead today (even Flo), for our first Woodfire and Wine for the season. Nothing on today? Why not come out and join us. Sun is shining and no wind (yet). We are open from 12 noon till 4pm.
05.01.2022 Woe, woe and thrice woe! The weather gods have conspired against us. The forecast for Sunday is horrendous. Therefore we have decided to cancel the Woodfire and Wine scheduled for Sunday.... The next event is Sunday 7th January 2018. Our best wishes to everyone for Christmas and the New Year. If you would like to buy some of our wines for Chrissy pressies, give me a bell on 0429686417, or buy online through out website, www.winstead.com.au . Cheers Snarey and Stu Photo: Julieanne, "I haven't retired, just changed jobs."
01.01.2022 BIG day yesterday and a BIG thanks to everyone who made it possible. A special thanks to our guests who were very patient while we took their orders. We had to serve many people in a short period of time. The weather was great, the music was great, the food was great, and going by the amount of wine consumed, it can't have been too bad also. Next Woodfire and Wine will be the 3rd and 4th of March, which is the Open Vineyards Weekend. Cheers... Snarey and Stu.
01.01.2022 We are open this weekend for the Open Vineyards Weekend. 10 till 5 both Saturday and Sunday. Coffees, milk shakes and sweet treats will be available Sunday.
