23.01.2022 ACCC TAKES ACTION AGAINST AUDI OVER DIESEL EMISSION CLAIMS ACCC has commenced Federal Court proceedings against the German car company (Audi AG), its Australian subsidiary (Audi Australia) and their owner (VWAG) for misleading conduct in relation to their diesel vehicle emission claims. 17.01.2022 EUROPCAR’S STANDARD RENTAL AGREEMENT HELD VOID FOR UNFAIRNESS The Federal Court has declared that Europcar Australia’s 2013 standard rental agreement was unfair - and therefore void under Australian Consumer Law - for holding consumers liable for vehicle damage even if they were not at fault. The company was also fined $100,000 for misrepresentations about consumers’ liability. 11.01.2022 JETSTAR & VIRGIN PENALISED FOR DRIP PRICING PRACTICES The Federal Court has ordered Jetstar Airways Pty Ltd and Virgin Australia Airlines Pty Ltd to pay penalties of $545,000 and $200,000 respectively for breaches of the Australian Consumer Law. She pleaded guilty to using an electronic carriage service to harass or offend.
