24.01.2022 Ever felt pressed or in a tight place? In this post I share an experience I had on a mountain trail in Mexico that relates to the times of pressing we all experience in life. Click below to read.
15.01.2022 Recently my attention was drawn to some verses in Ecclesiastes that describe the purpose of one who speaks truth and who gets to have the last word...
15.01.2022 I recently came across an old television broadcast of President Ronald Reagan. In that broadcast he described the basis on which he made decisions in public office: first as a Governor and second as the President of the United States of America. What he said blessed me: When I became Governor of California I started this and I continue it in this officethat any issue that comes before me, I have instructed Cabinet members and staff, they are not to bring up any of the poli...tical ramifications [consequences] that might surround the issueI don’t want to hear them! I want to hear only arguments as to whether it is good or bad for the people? Is it morally right? And on that basis, and that basis alone, we make a decision on every issue. I am reminded of some other sage words spoken long ago by another great man: the Apostle Paul "Do nothing from selfishness or empty conceit [through factional motives, or strife], but with [an attitude of] humility [being neither arrogant nor self-righteous], regard others as more important than yourselves. Do not merely look out for your own personal interests, but also for the interests of others." (Phil. 2:3-4 AMP) Many years ago I recall hearing God's voice speak these words to my heart: "If you will attend to the things that concern Me, I will attend to the things that concern you." We don't need to promote our own interests; God can do a far better job of that for us! (He promoted Reagan into the White House). So whether you are in public office (helping to steer a nation), or in a pulpit (shepherding souls), or in your home (being a light to your family), or in the marketplace, the classroom, the mission field or the workplace: be like the bridge that lays itself down for others to reach their destination. I seem to remember another man who exemplified this, whoeven though He was the Greatest of allstooped down and picked up a servant’s towel (John 13:1-17). His crown was no less brighter for the deed. You are greatly blessed and deeply loved! Tracey Pekkanen
04.01.2022 As Christians, we are called to do the works of Christ, but our identityour very sense of worthis not found in all our DOINGit is found in all our BEING. If you're a "doer" like me, you might find this article interesting.
03.01.2022 It can be easy to despair at the overwhelming situations around the world today in your own country on your own streets in your own neighbourhood. Compassion met with despair can breed hopelessness, but compassion met with hope brings the possibility of change. I heard these words spoken to my heart this morning: You can’t do everything--but you CAN do everything I ask YOU to do. So do what you can to be a blessing to others (trusting and not despairing), and pray, believe and leave the rest to God. Hope in His Goodness and be a light in someone else's world.
