25.01.2022 How Prepared Are You? Results from a QFES survey has discovered 19 per cent of homes in South East Queensland do not have working smoke alarms installed. The 2018 QFES Community Insights Survey, conducted by the Queensland Fire and Emergency Service discovered a decrease in the statewide operational status of smoke alarms, with 80% operational in 2018, down from 84% in 2017 and 87% in 2016 .... The study found 37% of South East Queensland residents have interconnected smoke alarms in their homes, just below the Queensland average (38%). Statewide, the results showed smoke alarms are being installed in more places within homes, with smoke alarms most commonly found in hallways (78%) and living areas (66%). However, they are not being tested or maintained as frequently (80 per cent 2018, 85 per cent 2017, 87 per cent 2016). The placement of the smoke alarms is not consistent with the 2017 smoke alarm legislation where smoke alarms are also required in bedrooms. 12.01.2022 The team went to Couran Cove on Sth.Stradbroke Island to do a smoke alarm upgrade in a private owned rental accommodation cabin. This was an interesting job as the cabin has 3 levels each requiring alarms as well as two existing (near expired) hard-wired alarms that link back to a control panel. We installed 3 wireless alarms, 2 hard-wired alarms & a remote control, all radioLINK interconnected and AudioLINK enabled.
