23.01.2022 Dear Wirreanda Secondary School Parents, Families and Caregivers, The Premier today announced that schools and preschools will reopen to all students on Monday 23 November. As a result our school will be open and operating as normal. ... We will not be offering an alternative home-based learning program. As the Chief Public Health Officer said, just because the hard lockdown is being lifted does not mean that the risks associated with COVID-19 have passed. As a result we will minimise the number of people coming and going from our site. Wherever possible, please drop and collect your child at your preferred drop off/pick off area of the school and maintain the appropriate physical distance from other adults. More information on excursions, events and sporting activities, and use of masks will be available soon. Thank you very much for your support over the last couple of days. We look forward to having your child back at school on Monday. Warm Regards, Caroline Fishpool Principal

13.01.2022 Dear Year 12 Parents, Families and Students, It saddens me to communicate something like this but feel I need to due to the response we have had in regard to the Year 12 Formal being cancelled. The strength of the Wirreanda Secondary School continues to be the support that we provide each other, and our continued understanding of these challenges and our shared resilience. With the SA lockdown now coming to an end, we have been bombarded with emails and social media message...s- some polite and some not so polite. There have been a range of emails and messages coming through, and contact made with the Stamford Grand etc, with many assumptions being stated about what we can and should be doing as a school. As a school, our staff have worked tirelessly this year to ensure that all events can occur when the COVID restrictions have allowed. COVID has presented many challenges to us in 2020, and many school events have been impacted on as a result of this. Please appreciate that the decision to cancel Yr 12 Formal was an absolute last resort, and not something that any school wants to do, especially in that we had already postponed it from Term 2 due to COVID. The restrictions that were in place when the formal was cancelled are still in place (remember that Formal was cancelled before the lockdown was announced- we have had a large number of messages late yesterday implying that formal could now be back on because the lockdown had ended). Unfortunately there seems to be a misconception that the SA Health rules and restrictions in the community don’t apply in schools- they do. We have worked relentlessly this year to ensure all year levels are provided with their correct right of passage- including year 12’s. Please know that the decision to cancel the Year 12 Formal was out of our hands and not an easy one at all- and if we could offer an alternative we would have, however in current COVID restrictions and the school year coming to an end unfortunately we won’t be. I continue to be incredibly proud of our community during this time, and ask for your continued understanding and for the emails and messages to stop, as we all continue to see 2020 out together. Please Stay Safe- and continue to be kind, including to the school staff who continue to work tirelessly for the last few weeks of this challenging school year. Regards, Caroline #WSSproud
