03.01.2022 Taking care of a loved one is one of the most noble tasks we do, but is so unbelievably overwhelming and can affect your wellbeing. The definition of a caregiver is anyone who regularly looks after a child, the sick, the elderly or somebody with a disability, whether it is paid or unpaid. If you are a caregiver and are experiencing some of the following symptoms, chances are you are feeling caregiver role strain: - Guilt... - Insomnia - Irritability - Social Withdrawal - Change in appetite - Chronic tiredness and exhaustion - Loss of interest in your partner - Loss of interest in hobbies - Crying easily and often If this sounds like you, don’t panic! There are things you can do to prevent these feelings of stress and anxiety. 1. Eat healthy 2. Exercise when you can (even with your loved one) 3. Observe your moods (take breaks when you become irritable) 4. Remind yourself not to sweat the small stuff 5. Gratitude journaling (remind yourself what you have to be thankful for) 6. Stay organised 7. Build a support network of loved ones and professional help 8. Join a primary caregiver support group! (other caregivers understand you better than most) We, at Wise Choice IHC, are a case management and support worker organisation, providing family-oriented, compassionate care in the Greater Western Sydney area.
