25.01.2022 Does ‘working from home’ need a PR boost? While many of us have been able to return to office, there are also many in Melbourne still working from home. It prompted us to think about the pros and cons of WFH in our latest blog penned by Karina Grift. What’s been your experience of working from home? http://ow.ly/LGi450B9acX

23.01.2022 Check out this interview on ABC Australia's Radio National program earlier this week with David Swain from Bolton Clarke. It’s a great example of a well-handled interview on a difficult topic that could have easily turned a listener against him. Instead, David Swain stays controlled, respectful and calm when delivering his measured responses. What David is able to do is evoke trust in a critically sensitive time for aged care. Some people spend years perfecting their media training skills but not everyone has this much time to prepare. If you find yourself in a tricky spot, here’s one thing to remember: stay humble and honest. http://ow.ly/MVFp50AX5up

21.01.2022 Victoria’s ‘roadmap to Covid-normal’ is complex. This is a great article by The Urban Developer that outlines how the roadmap impacts the construction and real estate industries. It also includes a measured industry response to the roadmap. It’s a good example of the important role niche media plays in communicating what matters to its audience. #mediaindustry #nichemedia #constructionindustry #realestateindustry

20.01.2022 A great example featured on 7News this week of businesses flexing their flexibility muscle and finding innovative ways to keep customers’ needs satisfied during COVID-19 restrictions. Filmed on location at Eastern Creek Quarter, our work behind the scenes for this news segment included preparing Felicity Armstrong from Frasers Property Australia and Kevin Nguyen from Pho Ever for their on-camera interviews. Order up!

20.01.2022 Securing a slot on prime time TV is not easy! This is a fantastic story by reporter Hannah Sinclair at 9 News that we worked hard to pull together behind the scenes for our client Frasers Property Australia, unveiling the state-of-the-art technology that’s helping bring its new Midtown MacPark community to life for potential buyers. Thanks Hannah and 9News for the feature. #broadcastjournalism #prtoday #developmentnews

18.01.2022 This opinion piece by the Grattan Institute’s Stephen Duckett in The Age today raises an important question about numbers and the impact of COVID-19. Every day the nation wakes to find out what’s happening with the numbers. Depending on where you live, the numbers dictate whether it’s time to worry or not. But numbers are not emotive. Focussing solely on numbers puts the important health message at risk. Behind every number is a human story. Human stories have far greater impact than counts and tolls. http://ow.ly/x3cn50AV0di

18.01.2022 The Washington Post is the most recent in a string of international news organisations to have pulled journalists out of China. While it’s big news, it might seem low on the priority list for everyday Australians when we have so many other things going on at home at the moment. To bring it closer to home, think about it this way: What interaction are you able to have with your team in the office compared to working remotely? While workplaces have proven they can survive wor...king remotely, what’s missed is the opportunity to bounce ideas off each and for business learnings to be shared across the team instantly. Ensuring a flow of knowledge is valuable and intangible. Looping this back to China, journalists on the ground are able to interact with citizens and get their perspective in a way they can’t get from afar. Journalists are retreating at a time when the views they can give us would be valued more than ever. https://wapo.st/2RxaOqr #journalismmatters #medianews #independentmedia See more

18.01.2022 The media industry, social media included, is bracing for a massive shake up after Facebook threatened to ban news sharing on its Australian platforms if the Australian government forces it to pay for news content. When it comes to communications, the stoush is a good lesson in language. Threat, risk, bully, restrict, ban, fight are the words most commonly being used to report the story. What is the risk for Facebook in this language? Are they being seen as Goliath to Australian media’s David in the battle? No one likes a bully. No one trusts a bully. Is it time Facebook gave something back?

16.01.2022 In a move that surprised global leaders, China, the world’s largest emitter of carbon dioxide, pledged it would reach carbon neutral by 2060. The announcement has largely been seen as a PR move designed to undermine the United States’ status as a world leader, highlighting their opposing attitude to climate change and capitalising on the US’s current domestic unrest. Jennifer Morgan, executive director of Greenpeace International, said China’s commitment to go carbon neutra...l before 2060 sends a strong signal that the reality of the climate crisis. However, actions speak louder than words, she said. There are two key questions next: how will China ensure that its actions match its commitments? And second, will Washington join in? China’s ambitious pledge also puts the spotlight on Australia’s climate change policy. The underlying logic of Australia’s position questioned why we would put pressure on our economy to drive down our 1.3 percent of emissions if a major emitter like China isn’t doing anything. It will be interesting to see how our policy makers respond. https://www.theguardian.com//china-carbon-pledge-put-energ

13.01.2022 Facing the media pack! It was fantastic to be involved in this important announcement today by the NSW Government working behind the scenes for our client Frasers Property Australia. A joint Frasers Property and Dexus submission was named as the winning design for the $2.5 billion Central Place development. Central Place will become a world-class commercial precinct development at Tech Central Australia's largest tech hub. Great to see everyone, including media, practising social distancing! A big congratulations to Frasers Property Australia on the announcement.

11.01.2022 Significant Capital Ventures was featured in Financial Review this week talking about the chasm between innovative university research and commercial outcomes. It’s an opportunity that has not been capitalised upon properly, but is also one crucial to our economic recovery. Significant Capital Ventures is an early stage venture capital fund which plays a hands-on consultative role with universities to prepare and scale university-led innovations into investable growth businesses, creating new industries and jobs. Check out this article in which CEO Fiona Hindmarsh shares her insights on the opportunities for Australia’s R&D and importantly, how we can bring more ground-breaking technologies, innovations and companies to the Australian market faster.

10.01.2022 Partnerships between government and private sectors could offer real solutions when it comes to providing Australia with affordable housing options. Our client Frasers Property Australia is one of two developers that will develop the first two affordable housing projects in Brisbane under the Queensland Government’s build-to-rent program. Thanks to Dinah Lewis Boucher at The Urban Developer for this really informative piece on the importance of the scheme.... #housingaffordability #propertypr #buildtorent

04.01.2022 Interesting and timely story featuring our friend Nuri Shik of Laing+Simmons Potts Point

03.01.2022 Frasers Property Australia has been named among the top 10 developers to watch in 2021 in both NSW and VIC by Urban.com.au - the only developer to make the list for both states. This will be a big and busy year for our masterplanned communities in both states, and nationally. We’re grateful to be part of the team working to create diverse, sustainable, well-designed masterplanned communities that leave a lasting legacy for our customers today and tomorrow. https://www.urban.com.au//10-developers-to-watch-in-vic-in https://www.urban.com.au//10-developers-to-watch-in-nsw-in

03.01.2022 COVID-19 is highlighting just how important it is to communicate clearly with your staff, customers or audience. If your business is impacted by a COVID-19 outbreak, we recommend businesses and organisations be transparent and honest. It is important to outline exactly what the situation is, update information regularly and be clear about what steps your business is taking to help overcome the problem.... We send well wishes to everyone in Victoria ahead of the wider shutdown and hope all businesses can bounce back. Stay well.

03.01.2022 @Canstar editor-at-large Effie Zahos said yesterday the major banks would likely have no choice but to follow through with home loan rate cuts eventually. The big banks have been working hard to clean up their image and they won’t want to undo the goodwill they’ve established with customers during the pandemic by not pulling through with home loan rate cuts now, she said. Zahos makes a good point. It’s rare and encouraging - to see the notions of brand value and dollar value so explicitly linked. Hopefully the banks are listening.

03.01.2022 If there is one thing the remote learning experience during COVID-19 has taught me it’s that we all learn to adapt when we are forced to! Businesses can and are doing the same. Pivot is the new buzzword, closely followed by flexibility and both apply more now than ever before. As a business, we have also had to adapt. Our working week is now completely flexible between remote and office working, we meet clients around the country via Zoom or Microsoft Teams and have adapted t...o working together while in different environments. In short, COVID-19 has not stopped us doing what we do: building good relationships with the media and allowing our clients’ stories to be told. In this period, it’s important your business keeps assuring your customers that you are continuing to do what you do best no matter how much you have had to pivot to bend to achieve it. t

02.01.2022 Social enterprise Darcy St Project founder John Cafferatta spoke to Nicole Pierre from Northern District Times about his passion for coffee and shared his vision of bringing a new café to Midtown Macpark , Frasers Property Australia 's new masterplanned community in Macquarie Park. Darcy Street Project aims to help disadvantaged young people break the cycle of homelessness, unemployment and social exclusion through coffee, food and education. Thanks Nicole for the great story!

02.01.2022 It’s not often that we’d suggest props but this former Sri Lankan minister sure knows how to grab media attention and get the message across!

01.01.2022 2020 feels like the Year of the Press Conference. Starting with the bushfire crisis rolling through to the pandemic, ministers across the nation have addressed the press daily. Behind all those press conferences is PR. Each press conference involves a well-defined strategy and key messages about what needs to be communicated. The package usually includes a written ‘press release’ distributed to all media, which reinforces the message being delivered. It has been impressive to watch how quickly the message has had to change, sometimes daily, to keep the public informed but, hopefully, not alarmed. This is no small feat. The key to delivering a successful press conference is knowing your material, staying on message and keeping calm, even when thrown curly questions.

01.01.2022 It’s great to see in this Mumbrella article, some locals papers being relaunched after a tumultuous year for community news. This announcement by Australian Community Media follows on from a recent announcement by News Corp Australia to relaunch 50 digital-only regional titles. While the delivery of news is changing in some areas, it shows there is still a real appetite for local news for local audiences. #medianews #journalismmatters #communitynews https://bit.ly/3kAX76k

01.01.2022 Premier Daniel Andrews secured a deal overnight to extend Victoria’s State of Emergency. But it’s worth revisiting the trouble Dan found himself last week when he announced his plan to seek a further 12 months. Dan’s problems were simple: messaging. Instead of a calm and confident message about the the path forward, the message was lost behind headlines of a power grab and fears Victorians would be ‘locked up for 12 more months’. What might have worked better?... 1. State your intention: We need to open up Victoria safely 2. How: Our CHO needs the power to respond quickly when the virus rears its ugly head, to do this we must extend our State of Emergency 3. What this means for you: Keep up the great work, follow advice on masks, social distancing, hygiene and testing so that slowly we can rebuild Victoria to the great state it is This article in The Conversation is a great explainer about the constitutional conundrum Andrews faced that is unique to Victoria:
