With the help of some very knowledgeable friends, the multiple swirling questions about green coffee purchasing are answered. Why is coffee roasted? Raw coffee beans are tasteless. 14.01.2022 What a humbling moment... Our little cafe has been recognised by Matt Kean MP in his speech in NSW Parliament in September. The last 2 years have been a whirlwind with both the hail storms and now COVID. Through it all, Wise Monkey Cafe has had the unwavering support of the Wise Monkey family, our Community and my family. Every day we bounce ideas off each other and modify when ever needed.... The amazing people within the Wise Monkey family & Community are a network that inspires, creates forward thinking, innovation & a whole lot of love. Wise Monkey is what it is because of our staff & customers. We are strong because of you and we deeply appreciate your support. xo Amy & Luke Mr MATT KEAN (Hornsby Minister for Energy and Environment)-While the COVID-19 crisis has been extremely difficult on many small businesses, there have been some that have been able to adapt and succeed while still keeping safe under the current restrictions. One of those businesses is the very popular Wise Monkey Cafe in Berowra. In order to keep her employees working and her cafe open, owner Amy has come up with a range of new approaches to her business. She has done this with gusto which has meant her business has been able to stay open and continue to employ her staff. They started a drive-thru coffee which has been a huge hit with the locals. She has extended her seating area outside to allow for more space between tables. Amy had already decided following the bush fires earlier this year to support farmers in Kulnura by using their produce in her cafe. She is now also selling that produce directly to customers both online and in her store. Congratulations Amy on your innovation and your determination to get through this crisis. Also thank you to all the local residents who continue to support local businesses like the Wise Monkey Cafe.

Being a father means wearing many hats and in my husband Luke’s case he is an amazing husband, father, son, brother, uncle, handyman, fireman, provider, farmer & so much more. You may not see him working in the cafe but he keeps it running behind the scenes. 02.01.2022 Today’s trivia inspired by one of my favourite books, available to browse through @wisemonkeycafe It was brewed by a saint from Mocha An alternative story has us believe that coffee was first discovered by a sheik named Omar, disciple to the Sufi mystic cited above. While in exile from Mocha (Arabia Felix in present-day Yemen), Omar, who was famous for his ability to cure the sick through prayer, lived in a desert cave near Ousab. Somewhat hungry, Omar one day chewed some be...rries only to find them bitter. He roasted them but this only made them hard; finally he tried boiling them, resulting in a fragrant brown liquid which, in an instant, gave him unnatural and exceptional energy and allowed him to stay awake for days on end. His ‘miracle discovery’ was held in such great awe that he was allowed to return home to Mocha and elevated to the sainthood while coffee percolated throughout the Arab world. By the 16th century, coffee was the beverage of choice in Persia, Egypt, Syria and Turkey, its reputation as the ‘wine of Araby’ boosted no end by the thousands of pilgrims visiting the holy city of Mecca each year from all over the Muslim world. Yemeni merchants took coffee home from Ethiopia and began to grow it for themselves. It was prized by Sufis in Yemen who used the drink to aid concentration and as a spiritual intoxicant. They also used it to keep themselves alert during their nighttime devotions.
