22.01.2022 Cognitive Load Theory! Sometime people say that THRASS is too hard for our learners and causes cognitive overload. Nothing could be further than the truth. The THRASS chart helps to manage cognitive load because it it correct information delivered in a consistent way. ... THRASS-trained practitioners understand how to use the chart as a tool to build their learners' knowledge and meet them at their point of need. If a child can already read several high frequency words (was, my) and make some phonic connections when they start school, why on earth would you send them back to a system that teaches 'a' as ant and 'y' as yawn regardless of context?

13.01.2022 Sue’s courses are great. Very practical advice

10.01.2022 Going back over the THRASS videos in preparation for tomorrow's course. Forgot about this one explaining how to analyse several High Frequency Words and link them to other words with the same spelling patterns. It's a goodie! Makes so much more sense than just teaching a list of 'sight words' to memorise. Sustainable and links with later learning.

10.01.2022 Delighted to have had the opportunity to facilitate the two-day Foundation Level course via Zoom with Denyse Ritchie, the co-author of THRASS, over the last few days. Denyse was in Perth and the participants were teachers, support staff and parents in Queensland, NSW, Tasmania and Melbourne. Inspiring professional discussion and critical thinking about how to support our learners to achieve their very best.

05.01.2022 Prefer for your child to work at their own pace and in a time that suits you? I highly recommend the fabulous online modules offered by Liva Learner for younger learners. Absolutely brilliant!
