18.01.2022 First of all, congrats on leveling-up your education! Higher Education Loan Program (HELP) debt, previously known as 'HECS', is a government program which helps university students pay for some of their course fees through a loan. We're super lucky to have this available to us in Australia - because these loans carry no interest (but are instead indexed annually to match the Consumer Price Index or 'CPI', aka 'inflation' - as of 2020 the index rate is 1.8%). Plus, you don't... have to start paying it off until your income is above a certain amount. For the 2020-21 income year, it's $46,620 before tax. And after this, it is a compulsory repayment taken from your salary based on how much you earn (https://www.studyassist.gov.au/paying-back-y/loan-repayment). These loans allow you breathe easy, even if it's a larger amount, so you can focus your efforts on beating down those higher interest debts.

11.01.2022 What is the Envelope System? If you are overspending in a certain area (like online shopping ), The Envelope System may be a good little trick to try. The idea is to decide on a maximum spend for that expense and set aside cash in an envelope with the category written on the front. You can do this for as many expenses as you want but once that money is gone, thats it! You cant spend more until your next pay period.
