07.01.2022 A late 19th century Japanese Kodansu with embellishments of inlaid fine gold, silver and rose gold came in for restoration and conservation after a previous inferior attempt. We needed to remove lead solder, reguild gold leaf areas, create new hinges, ornamentally engrave and rerivet using traditional techniques. Finally we removed built up grime and pollution from the surface without affecting the patina of the metal. A similar Kodansu by the same artist recently sold at Sot...heby’s for 20,000 GBP.
