24.01.2022 Lessons to be learned from Europe: The COVID-19 pandemic has brought with it a major surge in youth unemployment when we hadn't fully recovered from the global financial crisis of 2008. Fiscal and monetary support will need to continue to support the EU economy in 2022 and 2023. Policymakers need to set up targeted support programmes for the hiring and retention of young workers. Zero cuts to funding and investment in the economy of the future. What can Australia learn from this and how does it affect our young people? What will happen to overseas work experience and gap years? Will young people be able to afford the time and will there be opportunities?

19.01.2022 For students in rural and regional areas, this hands-on experience can be limited. Being able to offer mentoring through a virtual experience with world-class IT mentors has been invaluable experience. Mid Coast Connect Work Placement Program Manager Sandra Slattery. Sandra's comment comes after an incredibly successful IT event organised by AWS in response to difficulties faced by 11/12 VET Cert II IDT students to secure mandatory work placements because of the Covid-19 pa...ndemic. AWS couldn't have been more helpful, hearing about the challenges for students, they came up with Virtual Work Placements to 275 students from 36 high schools across NSW. Students developed ChatBot computer program which provided a unique experience for students to experiment with new technologies such as AI. #AWSinCommunities , #AWSEducate, @amazonedu, @CatholicSchoolsNSW, @NSWEducation, Australian Independent Schools (AIS), @compactwagga, #Mentors #Volunteers #Workplacementworks #workplacelearning #partnership #communitypartnership #givingback #careerdevelopment #structuredworkplacelearning See more

11.01.2022 Financial literacy, a basic life skill teaching young people to understand the consequences of financial decisions. Such an interesting read from someone who grew up in poverty and never really learned about money and so made a series of bad decisions, even feeling guilty if he had money in the bank. It is so important to give young people skills to make responsible life decisions especially those from disadvantaged families where they might not have been taught these skills by their parents.

11.01.2022 Recently in the largest event of its kind, 50 volunteers from Amazon Web Services and Amazon Education , along with teachers and support staff from the Workplace Learning Network recently provided a full week of Virtual Work Placements to 275 students from 36 high schools across NSW. Member @SouthernSydneyBEN along with 65 students from @BCAshfield, @Burwood-Girls-High-School-111524753656735 and @mckogarah took part. The project provided an incredible opportunity for studen...ts living in regional, rural and remote regions of NSW who do not usually have access to such activities to gain a true understanding of their potential in a career in Information and Digital Technology. The collaboration was organised by member Ian Palmer of SIP following real concerns that students would be unable to take part in mandatory work placement because of the Covid-19 pandemic. Once AWS heard about the challenges students faced, they quickly came together and came up with this incredible opportunity. We thank the management and team at Amazon Education and Amazon Web Services for inspiring and investing in the workforce of the future! #AWSinCommunities, @CatholicSchoolsNSW, @NSWEducation, Australian Independent Schools (AIS), #Mentors #Volunteers #Workplacementworks #workplacelearning #partnership #communitypartnership #givingback #careerdevelopment #structuredworkplacelearning See more

01.01.2022 The NSW Department of Education has designed a website, rich in information, relating to post school pathways including key dates for applying to tertiary and VET providers plus what VET training courses there are out there.

01.01.2022 Australians who access the internet only through a mobile phone or mobile broadband device with a data allowance cap face higher costs and reduced access to the internet. Unsurprisingly, those most likely to rely on mobile-only access live in households with income below $35,000 a year (30.7 per cent), have low levels of education (28.0 per cent), or are unemployed (25.3 per cent). There might be a correlation between low levels of education and low levels of digital literacy.
