22.01.2022 The Church of England has launched an excellent 13 day series of reflections to help maintain good mental health during COVID-19. You can find more about it here: https://bit.ly/2JwauEE

19.01.2022 Yesterday I renewed my ordination vows with Bishop Garry. We would normally do this in an extravagant service called Chrism Mass, but this year it was rightly a bit more humble. It was great to see all my colleagues by Zoom and to recommit myself to caring spiritually and pastorally for Gods people.

19.01.2022 We are people that can take the pain and stare it down with passion and love, knowing that it is transfigured in Christ by the resurrection. We are people that have a story of love to tell.

18.01.2022 All in-church services have been suspended from today. A Zoom Service will still be help at 10:30 am on Sundays. See the parish website for details.

17.01.2022 St Johns awesome parishioners smashed out a great working bee today to return the playground to working order and work towards our indigenous wildlife garden. Thanks everyone for an amazing effort.

16.01.2022 As we bring in 2020, all our prayers are with everyone caught up in the fires. We pray for safety and courage every person who is tried, scarred or mourning. And we give heartfelt thanks for the bravery of all who fight to save lives and livelihood. I encourage everyone to make a donation to the Australia Red Cross who are on the front line of helping everyone survive and recover. You can donate through the link below. Donations made through this link go straight to the R...ed Cross and do not go through the church. Pax Fr Glen

15.01.2022 During the month of March, we will be supporting the Share the Dignity charity by collecting pads, tampons, period underwear and menstrual cups to support women experiencing homelessness, fleeing domestic violence and those doing it tough. You can place your donation of these items in the collection box at St Johns Ballan & Bungaree.

15.01.2022 We want to run from it, blame someone else for it, hold a grudge against it, pin it on God. But Jesus leads us to surrender to it. To learn from it. To have empathy with it.

08.01.2022 A Christmas Message from Bishop Garry Weatherill, Anglican Bishop of Ballarat Give us tears when we expect breakfast The main players in the Christmas story ar...e people on the edge, fringe dwellers, as Patrick White would call them. A pregnant girl a long way from home; her bewildered partner, filled with anxiety issues; a grumpy innkeeper who is sick of pandering to the needs of no hopers; shepherds who are startled into visiting a baby in a stable and dont know what is going on. Further out, away from the immediate story, there are the people who matter - Emperor Augustus, Quirinius, Governor of Syria, Herod the puppet ruler, angels and archangels singing messages of hope and joy, sages from far away who read the astrological portents announcing this birth. Most uncomfortably for those of us who are lifelong Christians, there dont seem to be any people of significant faith in the story. Perhaps John the Baptist is an exception, but I always think of him as a pretty out there Charismatic, whose church I would never choose as my own. We are left with the stark reality that God chooses as his entry point into the world, people who are not like us at all. No matter how hard we try to imagine Gods plans somehow fitting our own expectations, our narrow views are always challenged by the God of Surprises. If God slips into the world as the Babe of Bethlehem, greeted by fringe dwellers, but hardly noticed by anyone who matters, we ought to be alert to discern the action of God in unexpected places. God is more likely to be heard addressing us from the Me Too Movement than from the pulpits of Cathedrals, in the voices of children who are Syrian refugees than in the statements of Church leaders. Perhaps this Christmas might be an opportunity for us all to be open to a new and radical reshaping of our expectations. Michael Leunig the Australian cartoonist and social commentator puts it neatly: Give us tears when we expect breakfast, Give us dreams when we expect a storm Give us a stray dog when we expect congratulations. May this Christmas bring you love and blessings and unexpected revelations of the Emmanuel. Garry Weatherill Bishop of Ballarat

06.01.2022 For the past week, I have been saying my prayers for the world by the light of these two windows. The left is Our Lady of Sorrows, and the right is Christ the light of the world. Such appropriate images for our times.

05.01.2022 In preparation for the working bee on Sunday, we got stuck in with a bobcat to lay out the stone work today. Thanks Ray and Michael.

05.01.2022 In the main street of Ballan today. A simple message for complicated times. Pax

01.01.2022 A Christmas Message from Fr Glen Christmas is an invitation to participate in the work of God which is unfolding of God in creation. We call this incarnation. While we celebrate the incarnation of our God made flesh in the infant Jesus at Christmas, the unfolding of the mystery of God in creation started in the beginning with the cosmic big bang and will continue eternally. This is what mystery looks like. It is in God that all of creation lives and moves and has its be...ing, including us! (Acts 17:28) Christianity is not just about trusting or believing in a belief system about Jesus saving us. It is about living out an invitation, given in Christ, to participate in the very nature of God (2 Peter 1:4), to live out the reality of being a vital part of Gods creation, to daily die to ourselves and be transformed into the face of God. Christianity is a religion, not of believing and belonging but of transformation and growth. And you are invited. This is an invitation of hope and optimism that world sorely needs. So why not let yourself be a vessel for that invitation to those around you. Mahatma Gandhi once said, be the change you wish to see in the world. Never has a truer word been said. Every blessing to you on your journey this Christmas. Glen
