22.01.2022 To the Church There will come a time when we will come out from under this cloud. But what we do now may define us or redefine us. Reminder, the church is not that building we attend on Sundays. It is, we the body of Christ. 1 Corinthians 12:27 ESV "Now you are the body of Christ and individually members of it."... And remember Jesus said, "For where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I among them." Matthew 18:20 ESV We have heard the saying there is strength in numbers. However, for the church, there is strength not in the numbers but in the presence of Jesus. Jesus’ presence can be experienced in the 2s and the 3s. Just maybe we have been missing this because we have been over-focused on the large gatherings on a Sundays. The problem for us in our individualistic society is that we have been hiding in the shallows of relationships in the crowds while missing the depth of being real with a handful of close people. Maybe what we have now is the opportunity of deeper connections and the chance of experiencing Jesus in a fresh way, with just a few. Perhaps we are isolated and can’t connect with others in person. Did you know that Jesus is there when we gather on the phone also? Who can you gather with by phone? I believe that there is an opportunity for we the church to come out of this with a greater depth of connections. Maybe we can rediscover what it really means to be connected as a church. Above all, love each other deeply 1 Peter 4:8a (NIV) See more

21.01.2022 A misconception of prayer- Prayer is pointless, God’s will is decided. Brothers and sisters, I could not address you as people who live by the Spirit but as ...people who are still worldlymere infants in Christ. I gave you milk, not solid food, for you were not yet ready for it. Indeed, you are still not ready. You are still worldly. For since there is jealousy and quarrelling among you, are you not worldly? Are you not acting like mere humans? For when one says, I follow Paul, and another, I follow Apollos, are you not mere human beings? What, after all, is Apollos? And what is Paul? Only servants, through whom you came to believeas the Lord has assigned to each his task. I planted the seed, Apollos watered it, but God has been making it grow. So neither the one who plants nor the one who waters is anything, but only God, who makes things grow. The one who plants and the one who waters have one purpose, and they will each be rewarded according to their own labour. For we are co-workers in God’s service; you are God’s field, God’s building. By the grace God has given me, I laid a foundation as a wise builder, and someone else is building on it. But each one should build with care. For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ. If anyone builds on this foundation using gold, silver, costly stones, wood, hay or straw, their work will be shown for what it is, because the Day will bring it to light. It will be revealed with fire, and the fire will test the quality of each person’s work. If what has been built survives, the builder will receive a reward. If it is burned up, the builder will suffer loss but yet will be savedeven though only as one escaping through the flames. (I Corinthians 3: 1-15 NIV) This is the idea that God has decided everything before hand- what some people refer to as a closed universe. If God works that way, then there is no use talking to Him, because He has already decided what will happen. Have you ever been asked for your opinion at work? Your boss asks what you think about an idea or a change in how things are done. You give your best ideas and suggestions- and your boss might even listen carefully. Only to find out later that the decision had already been made. Some people feel that prayer is like that- prayer is pointless, if God has decided already. In 1 Corinthians 3:9 the Apostle Paul spoke of the church as God’s fellow workers. Paul’s understanding is that we do actually have a listening ear with God, as His fellow workers. Even the prayer that Jesus’ taught us in Matthew 6 is an encouragement to pray for God’s kingdom to come (Matt 6:10) - implying that we can ask for, seek out and work for God rule in the world. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done. Again, Jesus taught us to pray that God’s will would be done. God made us as human beings with a will that can challenge His will. We are called to pray for God’s will to be done on earth- as it is in heaven. Prayer is not pointless- prayer involves getting to know God well enough that we know how to pray for His will. We have the awesome privilege of being God’s fellow workers- working for His Kingdom and His will to be done on earth as it is in heaven. (Rev KB) See more

20.01.2022 A response to Covid-19 outbreak. The World Health Organization has now declared the virus a pandemic. This description does not change the world’s response; it just confirms the state of the health crisis. What should our response be? Obey the directions of our government and our health organizations.... Pray for our leaders, health workers and emergency services for they are under extreme pressure, and it appears that it will only become more significant. Pray for a cure and the process of bringing a vaccine to distribution for the whole world. Pray for those countries that are most effective by the virus. Pray that through this crisis, that people will consider their spiritual destiny and that many would have their eye open to the peace that comes from knowing Jesus as our Saviour and Lord. Don’t just think of your needs but rather be generous to the needs of those around you. Finally, while these are troubling times, be assured that our hope goes beyond this world and is in the Lord Jesus Christ and our lives are in his hands. We have no reason to panic for our God is with us. Col 3:1-2 (ESV) If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth. Isa 26:3 (ESV) You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you. My prayer for you is this that in the midst of all this you will find and experience the presence and peace of God. 08.01.2022 Looking upward, inward and outward (Isa 6:1-9) Looking upward. Isaiah lived during the reign of King Uzziah who led Judah in peace and prosperity. He won many ...battles and made his name famous, being helped and blessed by God (2 Chron 26). But in a moment of greatness the king fell in his pride by attempting to usurp the position of the priest. He did so by attempting to burn incense in the temple. God struck him with leprosy and he died a leper. In the year that King Uzziah died (Isa 6:1) Isaiah must have felt terrible knowing that such a good king fell in his pride. The nation though prosperous under Uzziah was corrupt with sin. God caused Isaiah to look upward to Heaven. Instead of seeing the confusion and sin on earth, he saw the peace and worship in Heaven. From the human perspective we can be engulfed by the trials and tribulations of life. The devil’s job is to make us look downward with a sense of hopelessness and confusion. Allow the Lord to help us look up to God, to see the world from God’s perspective, to see that the whole earth is full of His glory (6:3). Surely there wasn’t much of glory on earth to be seen in Isaiah’s day. It is even worst today. But we are to see what God is doing and will be doing in the future. This is the heavenly perspective. Habakkuk had no reason to be happy about his situation either. But the Lord led him to take a heavenly perspective and he could say, The earth shall be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the LORD (Hab 2:14). Lord of hosts (6:3) is mentioned as many as 65 times in Isaiah. It means Lord of the armies, a term often used in battle. There will come a day when evil will be rooted out when God engages in holy warfare against His enemies. So look up and not look down. Looking inward. As Isaiah gazed into the realm of holiness, he saw how sinful he was. This is the result of the upward look. As we sense the presence of a holy God through our walk with Him we realise our own sinful nature in need of cleansing. Isaiah saw himself with unclean lips. God had to deal with those unsanctified lips. He sent a seraphim who took a live coal from the altar to cleanse his lips (6:6-7). Notice that there was an altar beside the throne. The more we gaze into holiness the more we need to be cleansed and made holy. Holiness is not something which we can obtain without intimacy of worship of God. So the throne speaks of holiness and worship but the altar beside the throne is freely available for cleansing. Are you cleansed by the Lord today? Do you desire more holiness (1 Peter 1:15-16)? Looking outward. Isaiah was no more engrossed with his own personal sin of unclean lips now. Neither was he engulfed with grief for the sin of the world. He was willing to accomplish God’s will. His readiness was testified by God’s clear calling in no uncertain terms, Whom shall I send and who will go for us? Many Christians rush out to conquer the world. They want to do lots of things for God. Now these activities are commendable of course. But we need to experience God’s presence in our lives first. Applying the experience of Isaiah in our life. How do we respond when faced with challenging trials of life? Firstly, we look upward to the Lord in prayer and ask questions like: Lord, what are you speaking in this situation of my life? and What does this all mean in the context of Your perfect plan for me? We seek God’s Word and ask, What does God say through His Word in handling such a situation like this? Secondly, we look inward within ourselves and introspectively ask questions like: Is this a red flag from the Lord that I have turned away from Him or that my decision is wrong? and How do I face this test of life with God’s wisdom and strength? and thirdly we look outward for divine opportunities and favour. Gove never leaves His children alone. We may not be delivered from trials but we are always delivered through trials. He is always with us to give us strength to see us through. Sometimes the surprising grace of God gives us divine appointments through someone perhaps who stands alongside us to encourage us. Lastly, like Isaiah we do need to experience a thorough cleansing, be sanctified wholly and be equipped for the Master’s call. Isaiah had his unclean lips. What unclean areas of our lives need to be cleansed by the Lord? The altar beside the throne of grace is freely available. (Rev Dr PL)

07.01.2022 My heart goes out to our Melbourne brothers and sisters dealing with lock down in the midst of a pandemic. I can not fully understand your pain. Praying for you. Also a scripture that I believe that God has given me for you and for all of us at this time, is Psalm 27:13-14 ESV. I believe that I shall look upon the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living! Wait for the LORD; be strong, and let your heart take courage; wait for the LORD! Blessings... Rex See more
