24.01.2022 Slight breathlessness while walking was the first sign something was wrong for Lockyer Valley lung transplant recipient Paul Palin. The 54-year-old worked with the transplant team at the Prince Charles Hospital and West Moreton Health Pulmonary Gym Rehabilitation Team to aid in his recovery. Kimina Andersen will be working closely with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to prioritise improved health outcomes for First Nations people. 21.01.2022 Queensland Health announced 8 new cases today in the West Moreton region. 5 are connected to the Staines Memorial College cluster, 2 are Ipswich Hospital staff and 1 is a student from St Edmunds College. All new cases are connected to other known cases and were in quarantine - with the exception of 1 case. Extensive contact tracing and quarantining of contacts is underway.... To take the pressure off our services, non-urgent Category 2 and 3 elective surgeries are being temporarily suspended, and appointments for these surgeries will be provided by private providers. If you have a scheduled elective surgery, you will be contacted by our team. Please remember if you have any symptoms whatsoever, have a test at a COVID clinic and do not attend any scheduled appointment. Thank you as we work together to keep everyone safe. Anyone with symptoms in the Redbank, Redbank Plains or Goodna area is invited to go down to the club and get tested. The QAS clinic will open again from 8am to 5pm tomorrow. No appointment is needed but please take your Medicare card if you have one. Last week, Estelle and a group of friends participated in a 30km coast walk to raise funds for Beyond Blue, an organisation that provides information and support to help Australians achieve their best possible mental health. The all-female team had been in training since late February and were disappointed to hear that the July event had been postponed and changed to a virtual event, but they didnt let a global pandemic shift their focus. The...y continued their training regime, slowly building strength and stamina. Their true grit led them to complete the course in just over 7 hours and raising an astonishing $4,800. 10.01.2022 We've started work to refurbish Ipswich Hospital's Tower Block levels 6 and 7, making space for an extra 26-bed area in Ward Block. Did you know this will be the first new ward built at Ipswich Hospital in six years? 06.01.2022 Routine wastewater testing on 22 October returned a positive result for viral fragments of COVID-19 in sewage at the treatment plant at Carole Park in Ipswich. The result may be a sign of one or more undetected positive COVID-19 cases in the Ipswich community and is being treated with caution. The wider Ipswich community is being asked to get tested immediately if they have any COVID-19 symptoms, no matter how mild. The areas in the Carole Park treatment plant catchment incl...ude suburbs in and around parts of Ipswich, including Camira, Carole Park, Ellen Grove and Springfield. Symptoms include cough, runny nose, fever, sore throat, shortness of breath, fatigue, or loss of taste or smell. Everyone is different. The virus might also show as a headache, nausea or vomiting, muscle pain, joint pain, diarrhoea or a loss of appetite. Testing is free for everyone, including people from overseas. The Ipswich Hospital COVID clinic has extended its hours to 8.30am to 4pm seven days a week. 06.01.2022 If you have been told to self-isolate at home while you are awaiting your COVID test result or if you have been issued a quarantine notice because you are a close contact of a known positive case it is because you may have COVID-19. You are being isolated or quarantined to help reduce the potential spread to other people. You must: stay indoors (wear a face mask if you need to attend a medical appointment) monitor your symptoms and seek medical attention if you be...lieve you are getting worse (call ahead to advise that you are in self-isolation or quarantine) avoid close contact with others, even those living in your household pay attention to hygiene, including cleaning touched common surfaces not share household items such as cups and eating utensils. Be aware that: if you have sought testing because you have symptoms and your test result is negative, you can resume your usual activities in accordance with the current government directions if you were in self-quarantine because you were issued with a quarantine notice, you must remain in self-quarantine until the end date written on the notice (regardless of a negative test result), as you are a close contact of a positive case and may still develop the COVID-19 infection you need to continue good hygiene practices to help stay free of illness, and follow physical distancing advice. if you become unwell, you need to seek medical advice immediately. if you are a vulnerable person in quarantine and want daily wellbeing checks from the Red Cross, call the Community Recovery Hotline on 1800 173 349. 05.01.2022 You’re looking at the winner of the 2020 Health Minister’s Award for Nursing Trailblazers! Congratulations Shannon Wallis on this incredible national achievement. The award an initiative of Federal Minister for Health Greg Hunt MP and the Australian College of Nursing recognises Shannon’s work to develop solutions to manage chronic diseases in the community. Shannon is our Virtual Care Nurse Unit Manager and has overseen the expansion of the MeCare program to establish a virtual hospital program at West Moreton, including care for gestational diabetes and COVID patients. 01.01.2022 Hutchinson Builders have cleared the site for the 50-bed adults and older persons Acute Mental Health Unit to be built across from Ipswich Hospital. They will continue to work at the site until mid-October to level the area and prepare it for the main build, expected to begin later this year or in early 2021. The unit will provide the best available mental health care and assessment, recovery and rehabilitation services for consumers. This purpose-built unit will reflect a residential environment with access to internal courtyards, gardens and outdoor areas, supporting best practice service delivery and person-centred care. Thank you to our neighbours, consumers and staff for their patience while the residences were removed and the construction works continue.

Our Bereavement Care Liaison Clinical Midwife offers individualised care for families who are experiencing a pregnancy loss over 20 weeks gestation, loss of a newborn, or have had a diagnosis of foetal abnormality at any gestation. The Bereavement Midwife coordinates your emotional and physical care, as well as offering specialised emotional support and practical guidance during this difficult time of grief and loss.... Support is also available for women and families who are experiencing a pregnancy after a loss of a newborn, a previous diagnosis of foetal abnormality or a 20 week or above stillbirth.
