25.01.2022 When enjoying inland waterways it’s important to be aware of the risks and stay safe. The flat, still surface of an inland waterway can give a false sense of ...security. Currents, undertows or submerged objects even in seemingly tranquil waterways can prove to be very dangerous. It’s important to be aware of the dangers and always take care around water. Remember that water conditions which may have been suitable one day can change hourly with the current. 25.01.2022 We’d like to say a huge thanks to the News Room at TRFM for their news coverage on AusNets ridiculous idea to turn the towns power off on a busy weekend! We are pleased that with the power of the people and the media we have been successful in having this decision over turned! - embarrassing for AusNet! ... You can listen to a couple of the news clips below. https://soundcloud.app.goo.gl/HGq8zFp4V6oU67vr6
23.01.2022 We win as common sense has prevailed and AusNet has cancelled the planned power interuption for Saturday 28 November. Thank you so much to all those people who made calls and offered support! Funny how they wouldn’t listen to the Walhalla traders but when the media started and the public began inundating them their attitude changed. Once again, thanks.

23.01.2022 ATTENTION MEDIA OUTLETS AUSNET FORCES CLOSURE OF TOURISM TOWN... AusNet Services will switch off power for infrastructure stress testing on Saturday 28th November 2020 from 8:30am until 4:00pm forcing the closure of businesses in the historic township of Walhalla. President of Walhalla & Mountain Rivers Tourism, Russell Wright, said This forced closure will be another huge blow to the local tourism industry who have been closed for some 7 months. We have contacted AusNet and have expressed our frustration and disappointment at this poorly timed maintenance works. Their poor attitude of ‘it’s our schedule’ ignores the fact that Walhalla is a town 100% reliant on tourist trade and that the weekend is actually our peak trading period. Clearly AusNet has not considered the damage that will be done and should reschedule their works so not to impact our tourism industry on the third weekend post Melbourne’s COVID-19 lockdown. This is yet another direct financial blow to small, independent, family run businesses already struggling to keep their heads above water from state government imposed restrictions. AusNet has had months to undertake this work where it would have made little difference as the tourism businesses were closed. In the past week, AusNet changed the works date multiple times so this shows there is flexibility. To think that turning off a tourism town on the weekend is acceptable shows a complete lack of understanding in the planning and consideration of the impacts on the struggling tourism industry. Walhalla & Mountain Rivers Tourism calls on AusNet to re-schedule this work to a week day when it will still have an impact but will not be as damaging as a weekend closure. Strangely enough, it will also be cheaper for AusNet to conduct the maintenance mid-week too! 22.01.2022 As restrictions are easing for regional Victorians we are opening this Saturday between 9am and 5pm. Further opening dependant on demand. There is some snow at ...Mt St Gwinear for those who don't mind a walk and given we've all been locked down it's s great opportunity to stretch the legs. Wheel chains are still legally required for access to StG. The toboggan runs remain closed and some restrictions remain around government guidelines. Snow is forecast for Next Tuesday at which stage we will reassess and decide on further opening. Baw Baw remains closed at this stage with a permit only access system. See more
22.01.2022 Just a reminder for those planning a getting away this weekend that the North Gardens Camping ground and the southern area currently remain closed for rehabilitation.
20.01.2022 Commonsense has prevailed! Thank you to everyone who made calls and supported the region to get this overturned.
20.01.2022 As we head into summer and warmer weather...and campfires...here is a reminder that unattended campfires are a huge risk to the region. If you are going camping and have a campfire, make sure you know the rules and follow them.
19.01.2022 Looking for somewhere that bit different to take the family (or household bubble)? Mountain Rivers Tourist Park, nestled in the beautiful mountain rivers region..., is a great place to base your adventures from. Come and stay in one of our lovely Family Chalets overlooking Happy Jack Creek valley or Mt Erica. Within walking distance check out the BMX track, footy oval or playground and walk around Crater Lake with it's beautiful flora and fauna. A couple of short drives away you could take the kids gold panning at Walhalla, walk up to Mushroom Rocks or check out the Thomson dam (one of the largest earthen filled dams in the southern hemisphere!) For more information or to book check out www.mountainrivers.com.au or call us on 51653231. See more

12.01.2022 Planning to go away this weekend? Our message to all campers is simple: Never leave a campfire unattended - Don’t let your campfire become a bushfire. Remain vi...gilant about campfire safety and call 000 if you see a campfire that doesn’t look right or is unattended. Campfires must not be ignited or allowed to continue to stay alight on days of Total Fire Ban (TFB) In all other instances the following campfire regulations apply: > 1. Use a purpose-built fireplace where provided, otherwise light your campfire in a trench at least 30cm deep. Ensure the trench is no larger than one 1 square metre in size and the area around the trench is cleared of flammable material up to three metres in all directions, including on top. > 2. Branches and logs on your campfire must be less than one metre long - keep your fire just big enough for warmth and cooking. > 3. Never leave a campfire alight or unattended. Maintain a 50-metre line of sight of the campfire. > 4. An adult must always be present when the campfire is alight. > 5. Ensure your campfire is completely extinguished using water not soil. > 6. If it’s not cool to touch, it’s not cool to leave. For more information on campfire safety visit https://www.ffm.vic.gov.au//fire-restrictions-and-regulati
10.01.2022 Disappointing that Destination Gippsland has yet again let down our region, a region that has suffered the effects of 2018 tourism down turn, 2019 2 bushfires impacting on our region and local businesses, 2020 the down turn of tourism in our region due to the fires in East Gippsland and then the effects of Covid19. It is greatly disappointing how costal focused this production is, and how our region simply doesn’t feature. We continue to advocate for Baw Baw Council to with...draw it’s entire funding support from Destination Gippsland who continue to simply disengage itself further from the Walhalla & Mountain Rivers Region. We believe the money now wasted on Destination Gippsland could be better spent by the local councils own tourism team. The Walhalla & Mountain Rivers Region deserves better support, better promotion and a fairer deal.
09.01.2022 With the vast majority of us are doing the right thing it is very disappointing to see a small number of people (selfish people) driving around Walhalla, who are obviously not locals. Be aware your little trip to Walhalla is more the 5km from your home (unless you live there) the Main Road to Walhalla itself is great than 5km long.... No businesses are trading over the next 5 days. ... Unless you live here your exercise routine is not a valid excuse. There are no coles, Woolworths or Aldi, medical centres or operating schools in Walhalla so that excuse is also ruled out. 5 days of staying home is not much to ask...
08.01.2022 Please note there is no power at the moment in the Walhalla & Mountain Rivers Region. At this stage AusNet Services have advised that the power will be restored by 5pm at the earliest. If you are visiting the area please take care on the roads as there are multiple reports of trees down. ... As a result of the prolonged power outage many businesses have lost their communications including emails & phones and maybe closed today.
08.01.2022 Some local history - marvellous! Checkout the old bakery in Erica! It’s still there as is the oven! We look forward to it’s reopening
06.01.2022 For all those planning to come camping in the North Gardens please see below advised from Baw Baw Council
06.01.2022 First Covid19, now this! Sorry to see that one of our tourism members have suffered significant damage to their property during last nights storm. Hope for a speedy repair!! ... Pics by SES ERICA
04.01.2022 Erica Caravan Park Open! Give a pat to Scooby doo!
03.01.2022 Parks Victoria has informed us today that we can reopen to regional Victorians. There is snow visible from the car park but it is very limited. Parks Vic will b...e patrolling and will be present on the weekend There will be restrictions on numbers, the warming room will be closed, restrictions as directed by government will be required. Keen walkers will find enough to make snowmen and snowballs. Not suitable for skiing but may be ok for snowshoes at elevation. Remember wheel chains are still legally required to be carried. Snow is forecast for Next Tuesday down to 800m. Also, please remember as per govt restrictions this only applies to regional Victorians. Your holiday home in Rawson, Erica, Walhalla does not count. Well done to everyone for getting this far. Please follow the guidelines and continue to drive numbers down. See more
02.01.2022 Please remember you are now required to wear a mask once again. We all hate them, but it’s for the greater good of us all and there’s no escaping it, Please don’t abuse businesses owners or their employees if your asked to wearing a mask. A simple request is if have an exemption for wear a mask, please carry your excemption letter (if you have one) from your GP with you to provide proof, it will mean a lot less hassle for you in the long run and a lot less hassle for the business owners and their staff. Stay well, travel safe.
02.01.2022 WOOOOHOOOO WE CAN OPEN AGAIN From Friday Night we will be open for dine in... CANNOT WAIT TO SEE YOU ALL
02.01.2022 Hidden beauties await in the Valley of the Gods and Spring is a beautiful time of year to explore the historic hamlet of Walhalla. Russell Wright
02.01.2022 Friday afternoon update! Snow expected overnight & all day tomorrow. Next update tomorrow morning
01.01.2022 Please contact your accommodation or attraction provider for cancellation or deferral of any bookings you may have over the next few days.
01.01.2022 So a special weekend for so many regional Victorians who today get a taste of some relative freedom and a new normality. Please be mindful not everything is open or operating and please be kind and patient with business who have opened and are working hard to find to give you the best experience they can under the circumstances. ... Our newest Walhalla residents are wandering around more freely and while mum and dad can quickly get out of your way their babies can not, so please give them space and give way to them if they are crossing the road. Most importantly if your here with your dog please ensure you have your dog on a leash at all times and have control of it... an 8yr old child is not going to have control of a very excited Labrador. : Walhalla Museum and Corner Store Post Office
