Bush and grass fire incidents will be depicted with a yellow, orange, or red... triangle depending on the warning level. This means no matter where you live or travel to, the warnings you receive will be the same. The change is based on large scale community research and the Royal Commission into National Natural Disaster Arrangements. #BeEmergencyReady

15.01.2022 Severe Thunderstorm Warning - Canberra for DAMAGING WINDS and LARGE HAILSTONES For people in Canberra and Queanbeyan. Issued at 12:37 pm Monday, 23 November 2020.... Plan Image Weather Situation: The Bureau of Meteorology warns that, at 12:35 pm, severe thunderstorms were detected on the weather radar near Mount Gudgenby and Bredbo. These thunderstorms are moving towards the east. They are forecast to affect Tuggeranong, South Canberra, Weston Creek and Woden Valley by 1:05 pm and Belconnen, Canberra Civic, Queanbeyan, Hall, Gungahlin and Canberra Airport by 1:35 pm. Damaging winds and large hailstones are likely. The State Emergency Service advises that people should: * Move your car under cover or away from trees. * Secure or put away loose items around your house, yard and balcony. * Keep at least 8 metres away from fallen power lines or objects that may be energised, such as fences. * Report fallen power lines to either Ausgrid (131 388), Endeavour Energy (131 003), Essential Energy (132 080) or Evoenergy (131 093) as shown on your power bill. * Unplug computers and appliances. * Avoid using the phone during the storm. * Stay indoors away from windows, and keep children and pets indoors as well. * For emergency help in floods and storms, ring the SES (NSW and ACT) on 132 500. The next warning is due to be issued by 1:40 pm.

04.01.2022 Severe Weather Warning for HEAVY RAINFALL Weather Situation: A low pressure system over central New South Wales is moving east and is expected to reach the Tasman Sea on Saturday. HEAVY RAINFALL which may lead to FLASH FLOODING may develop overnight and continue Saturday.... Locations which may be affected include Wollongong, Nowra, Bowral, Batemans Bay, Braidwood, Moruya Heads, Canberra, Goulburn, Captains Flat, Queanbeyan, Tidbinbilla and Bredbo. The State Emergency Service advises that people should: * Don't drive, ride or walk through flood water. * Keep clear of creeks and storm drains. * If you are trapped by flash flooding, seek refuge in the highest available place and ring 000 if you need rescue. * Be aware that run-off from rainfall in fire affected areas may behave differently and be more rapid. It may also contain debris such as ash, soil, trees and rocks. * After bushfires, heavy rain and the loss of foliage can make the ground soft and heavy, leading to a greater chance of landslides. * Stay vigilant and monitor conditions. Note that the landscape may have changed following bushfires. * For emergency help in floods and storms, ring your local SES Unit on 132 500. The next Severe Weather Warning will be issued by 11:00 pm AEDT Friday.
