23.01.2022 A record 51 aircraft will hit Victorian skies to help fight fires and keep communities safe this summer season. The 2020-21 aircraft fleet includes a mix of w...ater bombing aircraft, air supervision and air intelligence-gathering aircraft. Two Large Air Tankers, which can carry up to 15,000 litres of water, foam or retardant, and two 7500-litre Aircranes, will contribute to the 51 aircraft in the core-fleet and provide essential support to other aircraft across the state.

23.01.2022 CFA has received a number of calls from community members regarding bonfires to mark the ‘Spark in the Dark’ event this evening. We appreciate those who are tha...nking our frontline workers, but urge you to keep fire safety front of mind. As today’s conditions are windy in some areas we are urging those who wish to participate to not do so by lighting bonfires or using fire pits. If you are choosing to light a candle, please ensure it is monitored by an adult and extinguished properly. You might like to mark the event by using a torch or outside light. Thank you and stay safe.

22.01.2022 At approximately 8.30am this morning the Wodonga West Fire Brigade along with Fire Rescue Victoria Station 76 (Wodonga), Wodonga Urban Fire Brigade, Baranduda Rural Fire Brigade, Victoria Police and Ambulance Victoria responded to a house fire in Western Park Estate Wodonga West. Fire crews arrived on scene to find the lounge room at the back of the house fully involved with fire. The two occupants had safety evacuated and were checked over by Ambulance Victoria at the scen...e. Gas and electricity companies were called to isolate the services and make the house safe. Unfortunately the house received significant damage by fire, smoke and water. Fire investigators were called to attend the scene. #cfa #countryfireauthority #WeWorkAsOne #district24

17.01.2022 Works will start on the Lawrence St bridge from October 19. The bridge, which is more than 50 years old, will be raised to allow the shared pathway that crosses... Lawrence St to pass underneath the bridge, making it safer for pedestrians and cyclists using the House Creek path network. It will also improve the flood capacity of the bridge. The road will be closed at this juncture with the works are expected to take up to 16 weeks to complete, subject to weather. Alternative routes around the crossing point will include Brockley St, Melbourne Rd and Woodland St and detours will be well sign-posted. For more information head to our website at http://wod.city/LawrenceStBridge

17.01.2022 CELEBRATING R U OK DAY As we weather the storm of COVID-19 together as a community, we mustn’t forget to look after ourselves and each other - just as we ...do each and every bushfire season. It’s okay not to be okay - feeling anxious and stressed (a little or a lot) is a pretty normal response to the challenges we’re all facing at the moment. Checking in with yourself and those around you by asking ‘Are you okay?’ is an easy way to start a conversation that says you care, and that could save a life. ASK LISTEN ENCOURAGE ACTION CHECK-IN Talking about feelings isn’t easy for many people, but creating a safe, non-judgmental and understanding space for a friend, colleague or family member could make a huge difference to their mental health and wellbeing. To find out more about supporting yourself and others check out the R U OK Day Facebook page or website: www.ruok.org.au/. credit to the Phillip Island Fire Brigade for their fantastic photo acknowledging this important day.

17.01.2022 So proud of our members and our Brigade. If you haven’t checked out the podcasts take a listen!

14.01.2022 Daylight Saving Time begins this Sunday the 4th of October Victoria, ACT, NSW, SA and Tasmania will turn their clock forward by one hour at 2am on Sunday, October 4. Daylight saving will last until April 4, 2021, when clocks are turned back by one hour.... Queensland, Western Australia and the Northern Territory do not participate in Daylight Saving. Most smartphone devices and computers adjust the time automatically but analogue clocks need to be changed manually. Do your self a favour and change your clocks before you go to bed.

13.01.2022 Did you know..... Bushfires can create their own weather, generating ‘pyrocumulonimbus’ clouds and storms. These clouds can cause dangerous and unpredictable changes in fire behaviour, making the fire more difficult and hazardous to fight. So, how do they form?... 1. A plume of hot, turbulent air and smoke rises. 2. Turbulence mixes cooler air into the plume, causing it to broaden and cool as it rises. 3. When the plume rises high enough, low atmospheric pressure causes its air to cool and cloud to form. 4. In an unstable atmosphere a thunderstorm can develop: pyrocumulonimbus cloud. 5. Rain in the cloud evaporates and cools when it comes into contact with dry air, producing a downburst. 6. Lightning may be produced and can ignite new fires. Find out more, including how our scientists are working to be able to predict them, in our blog: http://ow.ly/3t1i50x8nM6 For the latest fire weather warnings see http://ow.ly/tbTN50x8nz8, and follow advice from the CFA (Country Fire Authority)

04.01.2022 The Royal Australian Mint has today launched a commemorative coloured $2 coin to honour those who battled the horrific 2019-20 summer bushfires. The $2 coin will feature a blaze of orange in the centre, with female and male fireys either side of it, looking ready for action. The Royal Australian Mint created the $2 coin to recognise the determination and commitment of our firefighting communities across Australia in battling the terrible conditions that confronted them.... The Mint also announced $125,000 of the proceeds from the sale of the coins will go to fire and emergency services organisations across the country, including CFA. CFA’s Acting Chief Executive Officer Catherine Greaves said CFA is extremely grateful to the Mint for recognising the incredibly important work our members do in protecting lives and property. This coin will reach communities across the country and will highlight the risk our members take each and every day to keep Victorian communities safe, CEO Greaves said. CFA Acting Chief Officer Garry Cook said the Mint’s generous monetary contribution will go towards purchasing and maintaining brigade firefighting equipment. We are always very grateful for any financial contributions made to CFA it allows us to boost our critical firefighting equipment which further increases our ability to protect our community, CO Cook said. The new $2 coin has been made available to the banks for circulation across Australia. A version of the coin will be made available in a packaging card for coin collectors. The Mint will also be hosting a small exhibition over the summer months in Canberra to honour Australian firefighters. There will be a collection of notable objects on display, including these commemorative $2 coins, as well as a number of other medals and coins made by the Mint over the years to honour firefighters. CFA is encouraging its members and the community to buy one of these commemorative firefighter coins as a special memento. The timing of the release of the coin is a great reminder to those living in bushfire-prone areas to prepare themselves and their properties for the upcoming fire season.
