19.01.2022 PILE BURN NOTIFICATION REMINDER - Time to re-notify! This year the Bush Fire Danger Period has NOT been brought forward for the Cessnock Local Government Area and will start on 1st October. As a result permits will not be required in the Cessnock LGA until that date. However it is very important that anybody intending to undertake a pile burn between now and then must notify Lower Hunter Fire Control even if you have done so already this year.

12.01.2022 HELP US MAP THE FLOOD WATERS Following heavy rainfall over the past 48hrs there are a number of creeks filling rapidly and roads being cut. The Wollombi Valley is fortunate that Cessnock City Council with the support of Department of Planning, Industry and Environment have installed a number flood gauges within the valley and the benefits of these were seen in the February rains. Remember you can access that information here: http://www.bom.gov.au/cgi-bin/wrap_fwo.pl?IDN60141....html To help us understand what the different levels at these gauges mean for roads and properties around the area we are asking for all our followers support in collating some data. Please send through any pictures you have taken to [email protected] and give us some extra information such as: - Date & time of observation - Location (as detailed as possible) - Description of the water height Please remember, as always, IF IT IS FLOODED - FORGET IT and stay out of flood waters.

02.01.2022 INFORMATION: Notification of Pile Burns To Neighbours. 20 June 2020 It’s still a good time to do Pile Burns. To help you prepare for your Pile Burn, here’s a quick review of the regulations regarding notifying your neighbours and Lower Hunter Fire Com. 1. Notify your immediate neighbours either by talking or writing (immediate neighbours being all adjoining landowners/occupiers to your property including those across the road). You must give them at least 24hrs notice ever...y time you wish to light a burn. 2. Notify Lower Hunter Fire Control for a season pass (this is only required to be done ONCE during the current Non Bush Fire Danger Period which lasts up until 1st September). Email: [email protected] Phone: 1800 890 533 Details you need to provide: your name, your address, your contact numbers, the type of burn (e.g. pile burn). Lower Hunter Fire Control will add you to the burn notification list up to 1st September 2020. You will only need to notify the Fire Control Centre ONCE per property during this time. 3. Only call 000 if you see an unattended out of control fire. 4. A Facebook post is not an alternative to notifying your immediate neighbours, it is a courtesy to the community only. You can find out more on preparing for a pile burn at this link: https://www.rfs.nsw.gov.au//12/BeforeYouLightThatFire.pdf
