10.01.2022 Ok this is not an article about writing of any form. These beautiful minimalist illustrations were penned by Japan’s Kitao Masayoshi in 1795. The drawings show the character and uniqueness of each animal, just as clearly as any botanical illustration could. In writing we aspire to 'show not tell', to remove extraneous words, to leave the reader with a clear mental image. Kitao Masayoshi's illustrations can be seen as a visual depiction of that aspiration.
