23.01.2022 While researching for a client, this beautiful poem was found. Written by George Armour about Werombi. George was not only a skilled poet and beekeeper but also a sportsman and barber. When reading the 1000th edition of The Distirct Reporter we also found an excellent article about George Armour, written by Julie Wrigley of the Camden Historical Society. We hope you will find a copy and read more about Mr Armour.

19.01.2022 On International Volunteers Day we are proud to say we are all volunteers at the Wollondilly Heritage Centre and Museum. We have volunteers from many skilled backgrounds that work as a team to show we are dedicated to preserving the local history of the people of the Wollondilly Shire and Burragorang Valley. We have researchers, exhibition curators, archivists, librarians, teachers, front desk volunteers, hospitality volunteers, cleaners, gardeners, maintenance handypersons and more! We often take turns in helping out it different roles to make our facility an award winning museum. Thank you to all our volunteers!

11.01.2022 Delve into the value of history in a regional context for a special, in-person exhibition for #historyweek2020! Please join @The Oaks Historical Society for a s...pecial exhibition to celebrate the Bushfire Brigades in the Wollondilly Shire @ the Wollondilly Heritage Centre & Museum! It will explore how history shows they were established to bring hope to local communities in times of bushfire and other disasters. A static display at the Wollondilly Heritage Centre will depict a timeline of the development of each fire brigade in localities across the Wollondilly Shire. It will also show how fires were controlled before the brigades started. There will be a number of artefacts to support the change in methods used to combat bushfires. This is a exclusive #historyweek2020 in-person exhibition. Entry to the exhibition is $3.00. This exhibition will run from the 5 - 13 September! To find out more, visit our FB events page or our #historyweek2020 Events Calendar on our website. Please note | To provide for possible COVID-19 restrictions, a photographic display will be included on our website at wollondillymuseum.org.au. #online Image Credit: The Oaks Historical Society Inc. #historyweek2020

01.01.2022 In NAIDOC Week we recognise the skill of our indigenous people in their use of cultural burning. Here is a photo from our exhibition, Hope Out of the Ashes, that is soon to be officially opened. It is from Joseph Lycett’s painting of ‘Aborigines burning grassland’, 1820.
