12.01.2022 Full of native scenery and wildlife, Bargo carries a rich Indigenous history. Did you know the town’s name was coined during the 1800s by botanist George Cale...y’s Aboriginal guide Mowatiin, who referred to the area as meaning ‘place of cliffs’ or ‘thick shrubs'. It was also both the Bargo and Yanderra areas that the first sightings of the Koala, Lyrebird and Wombat were recorded. Bargo is located only a short drive to the Nepean and Avon Dams, offering beautiful views and picnic areas. Bushwalking tracks close by include Mermaids Pool with Indigenous significance and stunning scenery. @she.who.explores #ShopTheDilly #VisitTheDilly #LoveTheDilly #LoveNSW

10.01.2022 Aluminium, polycarbonate, hardwood and LED lighting were used to create this beautiful structure named "Lamplight" to commemorate the Appin Mine Disaster The ...14 arches stand for each of the miners lost in the 1979 tragedy and honour the mateship of life underground. The coloured glass on each arm refers not only to the miners’ safety lamps but also to candles permanently lit for each of the souls lost. At night, each arm projects a beautiful narrow column of white light to the ground below. Lamplight is located along Sportsground Parade close to Gordon Lewis Oval and the Appin Community Hall Artists: Paul D Johnson and Gail Manson #ShopTheDilly #VisitTheDilly #LoveTheDilly #LoveNSW
08.01.2022 Fact: Your safest option is to leave early. A bush fire can be a terrifying situation, intense heat and flames will make you tire quickly, it will be difficult ...to see and breathe. You may become confused or disorientated. Powerlines and fallen trees can block roads and make driving dangerous. It’s always better to leave early, before the fire arrives. Visit myfireplan. com.au and make a bush fire survival plan, it will help you make important decisions like when to leave or what you need to be prepared to stay. #getreadyweekend See more

02.01.2022 WOLLONDILLY STORIES With the opening of Picton's latest café, you may be wondering, who is or was Moses Barnes? Moses Barnes was one of Picton's first residents... and a real Aussie larrikin. At the age of 41, Moses was transported to Australia on the convict ship 'Susan' destined for a life sentence in the Colonies for forgery. Leaving a wife and three children behind, Moses made the best of his circumstance and in July 1834 not long after arriving in Sydney, he was granted a ticket of leave. This allowed Moses to acquire and work on a property in Picton under the watchful eye of the local gaol warden John Blake. He soon was granted a conditional pardon, becoming a free man in 1846. Moses Barnes ran a successful goods shop where the Post Office now stands. Prospering from his business enterprises, he was able to invest in several properties, including the land where the Café is currently situated. Moses had a relatively long life, often getting in trouble with the law as the courthouse records show. Moses died at the age of 79 in 1873 and his unmarked grave can be found at Picton's Anglican Pioneer Cemetery. Why not visit the Moses Barnes Café and find out the full story? If you're interested in local history, visit the Picton District Historical & Family History Society on Thursday at Wollondilly Library. Shop local and support Wollondilly business, check out Love the Dilly webpage https://www.lovethedilly.com.au/ Information supplied by the Picton District Historical & Family History Society.
