22.01.2022 Welcome to week 3 of our allergy series. This week, Nurse Jess will take you through food-related allergies. While it's not one of the most common forms of allergies we see, it may be the difference between your pet being off medication for the rest of their life! If you think your pet is suffering from itchy skin, give us a call and let us help your pet feel comfortable this Spring

22.01.2022 With Spring a few days away, this is often the best time to have your pets wormed (a handy trick to know when 3 months is up is to go by the change in season!). Our adult dogs need worming once every 3 months after 6 months of age, while our younger ones need it more regularly. Worming is important to not only protect your pet, but your family also. Without regular worming, children can have these worms migrate through their skin and affect multiple organs (including their eyes!). Call in for a chat and let us keep your family happy and healthy all year round

22.01.2022 Happy Father's Day! Whether you're a human Dad or fur Dad, we hope you enjoy your day

16.01.2022 It's that time again where we are seeing an influx of puppies come through our clinic doors! If you've been lucky to have a cute new family member, you're in luck! Our puppy preschool classes start this week. Did you know behavioural issues are the main reason why most pets are re-homed or euthanized? We are passionate about ensuring your newest fur baby is healthy both physically and mentally. These classes help introduce your pup to a vet clinic, meet the staff, and me...et other dogs of varying shapes and sizes (for some dogs this can be very scary). The classes help them learn acceptable social habits, while learning a few tricks along the way. These classes are run with one of our highly trained nurses and go for 5 weeks. Give us a call to find out how we can help your pooch live it's best life

07.01.2022 LATEST COVID UPDATE COVID strikes again. It's not the Christmas we were hoping for but with new cases in the surrounding areas being classed as "hotspots", we've been required to go back to our stricter protocols to protect both our staff and clients over the Christmas period. Below are our most recent clinic policy changes and we appreciate everyone's understanding and support during this challenging time. If we haven't seen you since the COVID-19 pandemic begun, below are... our clinic's most recent changes: Calling the clinic when you have arrived for your scheduled appointment Waiting in your car with your pet until a staff member collects you Calling the clinic to organise repeat medications and other stock BEFORE you run out, and waiting for us to bring them to you in your car Paying with card or over the phone BEFORE picking up medications and other stock When your order is ready to be collected, please wait in your car for us to bring it to you Waiting patiently in your car during consultations. These consults will be conducted in the clinic with the vet team only, where your vet will discuss a treatment plan with you once your pet has been examined Ensuring social distancing measures are applied (1.5m away from other clients or staff while visiting) Letting us know if you have been sick, in quarantine or self isolation, or been in contact with someone showing flu-like symptoms or recently been confirmed COVID-19 positive Please let us know if you have been in any hotspot regions to see how we can best meet your pets needs We appreciate your patience during this stressful time. Your help allows us to remain open and help your furry family members. As a team we continue to disinfect our hospital regularly on all areas in our consult room, waiting room, around the front counter and doors. For more updates on COVID-19, download the "Coronavirus Australia app" on your phone https://www.health.gov.au//apps-/coronavirus-australia-app

06.01.2022 Meet the stars of August and let us know if you pet is our newest celebrity

05.01.2022 Summers in Australia are notorious for their harsh heat and unforgiving temperatures, making heat stress an emergency. Here are some tips to help your pets beat the heat this Summer: 1) Ensure your pets always have access to shade and water throughout the day. You can provide extra shade using shade cloths and umbrellas. 2) Provide multiple water bowls in shaded areas to keep it cool and in case one is accidentally knocked over. 3) To help keep your pets water cool, you can ...freeze half a bowl of water overnight and add cool water to the remainder of the bowl to help it last all day. 4) If your pet likes to play in water, set up a shallow paddling pool for them to play in. Be sure they are always supervised during water activities. 5) Make frozen treats to help them stay cool throughout the day. Dr Emily makes a diluted chicken stock broth ice brick for her dog, Whiskey. To further encourage licking, you can add some toys or tasty treats like chicken wings to the broth once it has cooled (for more information, click here https://www.localvet.com.au/Burrago //Vet_BlogDetails.aspx). 6) Allow your outdoor pets to come inside the house to enjoy a cooling fan or better yet, air conditioning. This works best when your pet can relax on a tiled floor. 7) Walk your dog in the early morning or later evening when it’s cooler. A good way to know if it’s okay to go walking, place your hand on the concrete. If you can leave it there comfortably for 5 seconds your pet’s feet won’t burn. 8) NEVER LEAVE YOUR PET IN A PARKED CAR ALONE, EVEN WITH THE WINDOWS DOWN! Temperatures in a vehicle can rise to dangerous levels, even on mild days. 9) Pay close attention to young, old, overweight, and brachycephalic breeds (animals with pushed in faces) as they often suffer from signs of heat stroke sooner. 10) Pets with thick coats can benefit from having a summer clip, allowing them to stay cooler (and remove any unwanted mattes). If your pet is excessively panting, has bright red gums, and labored breathing, seek veterinary attention immediately See more
