25.01.2022 Merry Christmas, mountain bikers . the new Advanced Trail on the Garden MTB Trail will be open from 8am on Sunday 20th December. The Advanced Trail has been re...stored by the Wollondilly Macarthur Mountain Bike Club with the tremendous assistance of many volunteers to bring this trail back for the community. The Advanced Trail adds 3.9km of trail bringing the total distance of dedicated and authorised mountain bike trail at the Australian Botanic Garden to just over 11km or 10.1km if you do the main trail. The Advanced Trail is rated ‘Intermediate with Difficult Sections’ under MTBA ratings (see link below). The trail is a cross-country (XC) style trail with a large variety of terrain and features. Focus in the restoration has been to make the climbs easier and to make the descents more fun there are plenty of berms, rollers, trail jumps and many other features all situated in a mix of forested hillsides and undulating open grasslands. The trail is oriented towards riders with a medium-high level of mountain biking skills, however, it is rideable by most riders exercising some caution on the features or using the B-lines. Take your time on your first lap the trail may be soft and loose in spots plus some berms will need wheels and a little time to firm up. 23.01.2022 Sensational result for club member Taj - second in Gravity Enduro NSW State Championships held over the weekend at Green Valley. Big field, strong competitors and changing conditions - and Taj gave it a red-hot go as he always does. Taj will be one to watch in the future. Already a fast, spectacular, competitive rider - he just keeps getting better and faster. 23.01.2022 TRAIL DAY SEPTEMBER - Garden MTB Trail Wonderful group of volunteers this morning finished a section of the Advanced Trail. Main focus was the new climb with six switchbacks to get you up to the top hopefully with something left in the tank. Immediately after climb is a short, speedy recovery descent through the trees with two jumps which will be a blast. The new climb has been duly named 'Snails' after we came across two endangered Cumberland Plains Land snails. Once the tra...il is opened these snails and their friends will be watching you on that climb. We also got some other features built, restored the rock climb and had the excavators clear another large section of trail ready for our next trail day. As a little thank you to the volunteers Sunday Road Brewing provided us with a carton of their excellent Blackwood Pale Ale to enjoy after the work was done. Thank you - it was just what we needed after a big day. Our next trail day will be posted soon. If you want to help bring the trail back quicker please consider coming along to give us a hand. It would be nice to see you. As a reminder, the Advanced Trail is not open and must not be ridden. Do not be one of those riders who thinks rules do not apply to you - you will end up having an interesting conversation the Ranger. Big shout out to the volunteers making this happen for you.

These 6 x $50.00 vouchers can be redeemed at On Two Wheels’ Gledswood Hills facility on parts and accessories in store.... HOW DO YOU GET YOUR NAME IN THE DRAW? Anyone who volunteers at one of the trail days for the Family Loop, for at least one hour, will have their name added to the draw. If you volunteer at multiple days then you will have the equivalent multiple entries in the draw. FYI: If you have already helped at a trail day for the Advanced Trail your name is already in the draw! WHEN WILL THE DRAW TAKE PLACE? We will do the draw for all six vouchers after the Advanced Trail is completed. We will do the draw in store - we will let you know when. You do not have to be there on that day to collect your voucher if your name is drawn. 19.01.2022 We have cancelled the trail day planned for Saturday 31/10 as the forecast is a wet day. We appreciate there are some people keen to work but it might get a little uncomfortable in the rain and we are also conscious the new work can get a little slippery underfoot - we do not want to risk anyone getting hurt. The November trail days will be posted soon. We really need all the assistance we can get to keep the restoration of the Advanced Trail moving along - if you are available to help at any of the trail days it will be great to see you. 13.01.2022 The Advanced Trail on the Garden MTB Trail is getting so close now. Those amazing volunteers (a.k.a. 'the trail fairies') completed some great work today on rebuilding the A & B lines through the rocks including some new features and a tweak to the layout. It looks fantastic and will be a lot of fun to ride. We need one more volunteer trail day to get things safely finished. The volunteers are working hard to try and have the trail open before Christmas - if you have some ti...me free on 12/12 for a big final push it would be great to see you. Please remember the Advanced Trail is not open and is not to be ridden. Do not be that person who rides a closed and unfinished trail - you may end up having an interesting conversation with a ranger. Thanks.

08.01.2022 Huge effort from a fantastic group of volunteers this morning to put the finishing touches on the Advanced Trail on the Garden MTB Trail. All of their effort in trimming, raking and shaping the trail has got it looking awesome and has it near ready to go. The trail is not open yet. We have our inspection with Australian Botanic Garden management next week to verify our work complies with our agreement, meets the trail standards and is safe for riders. This is an important ste...p with our supportive landowner as we are very fortunate to have permission to build the trail on their land. So when will the trail be open? If the inspection goes well and the weather is kind to us the trail will be open before Christmas. Remember, the Advanced Trail is NOT OPEN - it is not to be ridden. Also remember, not even the volunteers who built the trail have ridden it yet - please be patient and the trail will be open soon. Thanks

06.01.2022 2 minute read. The Advanced Trail at the Garden MTB Trail in the Australian Botanic Garden is now open. We make no apologies if this sounds like a shameless plug for all those fabulous people who have helped and supported us in the restoration of the Garden MTB Trail, and the newest section, the Advanced Trail.... The Garden MTB Trail restoration has been a 3 year project driven by the Wollondilly Macarthur MTB Club. Our principle aim has been to restore the MTB trail for the community and to give South-Western Sydney a dedicated and authorised mountain bike trail. There was also some self-interest in this project we also wanted to give local riders a local trail to ride. Firstly, a thank you to everyone at the Australian Botanic Garden who have helped us to make this happen for the community. To the management team, the staff, the rangers and others thank you for your patience, time, understanding and flexibility thank you for the trust you placed in us and the support you have given us along the way. To the business supporters who got behind us we could not have done it without your assistance. The support from On Two Wheels Bicycles, IMB Bank, Caldwell Martin Cox, Tonka Mini Excavators & Landscaping, Burnett Plumbing & Narrow Excavations, Lifestyle & Sports Physiotherapy has made all the difference. However, without doubt, the biggest thanks must go to the all the volunteers who have tipped their time into making the trail a reality. It has been humbling to see volunteers pouring their heart into the trail through the heat, dust, rain and cold while swatting flies and dodging big bull ants. We watched many volunteers drag themselves to their cars exhausted after a big day and then return again at the next trail day for more all while giving up their riding time. Across the whole project 82 individual volunteers have contributed almost 1500 hours in 35 separate trail days since we started the actual restoration in September 2019. To the volunteers, we cannot thank you enough the Garden MTB Trail is only a reality due to you and your efforts. Where does this leave us now? We are going to take a little break from trail building and ride our bikes a bit more. However, we will be back in 2021 to add some more features, make some tweaks and continue to improve the trail. 01.01.2022 Great work by a dedicated bunch of volunteers (including some new faces ) on the Advanced Trail (Garden MTB Trail) this morning. Another 800m of fun, fast and flowy stuff was finished today.
