25.01.2022 Mobile phone detection cameras will be switched on across New South Wales on Sunday, 1 December, following successful trials in Sydney earlier this year. Taking... your eyes off the road for two seconds to look at your phone for an incoming call or text greatly increases your risk of crashing. If you are travelling at 60 kms an hour you will travel the length of seven average car lengths in two seconds ... at 80 kms you travel 10 car lengths ... at 100 kms you will travel 13 car lengths in that time. PCYC NSW's Driver Education Programs supports this NSW Road Safety - NSW GOV initiative. We encourage you to keep your hands off it! #roadsafety http://bit.ly/2qUk2DB

18.01.2022 World-first 'Big Brother' Sydney Mobile Phone Detection Cameras capturing drivers private information sparks privacy concerns. New cameras that routinely tak...e bursts of high-definition photographs of law-abiding Sydneysiders inside their cars have triggered major privacy concerns. The NSW Government’s mobile phone detection cameras, heralded as world-first road safety technology, work by capturing wide-angled images of all passing drivers and front passengers through the windscreens of cars to check if they’re using a phone while behind the wheel. But more than 1100 pages of emails and documents - obtained by 9News under Freedom of Information laws - reveal numerous red flags over the Big Brother technology have been raised by the NSW Information and Privacy Commission (IPC). The Government is currently awaiting a final report before deciding whether to roll out the cameras permanently. Read More: https://tinyurl.com/y3spf3xf

12.01.2022 THE NEW 40KM/H WHEN PASSING EMERGENCY VEHICLES LAW BEGINS SEPTEMBER 1 IN NSW. This new speed limit will apply when passing stationary vehicles with blue and re...d flashing lights. While this law is designed to protect first responders such as paramedics working roadside attending a crash, highway patrol vehicles are the only emergency vehicles equipped with radar or lidar. As such, it's highly likely the only fines issued will be to drivers passing a HWP vehicle. Likely one who has pulled someone safely over onto the shoulder to issue a ticket, and wants to get his quota up...sorry, I think we have to say KPI now. While to the hard working ambos & firies, I'd like to say please take real care stepping out into traffic, as the driver will likely have his or her eyes down glued to the spedo for fear of a ticket. https://www.news.com.au///1b7b3b89c7702a9afe9e998829ecd479

01.01.2022 PRISON VISITS SUSPENDED NATIONALLY Following the National Cabinet Meeting on Friday, 20 March 2020, a joint decision has been made to suspend all personal visit...s to adult correctional facilities across Australia over the coming weeks. Individual jurisdictions will decide when the new measure will be introduced based on their operational needs. This decision has not been made lightly and responds to the rapidly evolving COVID-19 situation and state and federal health measures. Corrective Services NSW suspended visits on 16 March to ensure the safety of our staff and inmates, which is our number one priority. Visits will recommence as soon as it is safe to do so, and we will continue to follow the advice of the Chief Health Officer, and federal and state authorities. We recognise that contact visits are important to inmates and their loved ones and we are exploring ways to ensure family communication is maintained. We are currently exploring options to increase the use of audio-visual links for family and legal visits, as well as court appearances. Corrective Services Industries is manufacturing 20 ‘pop-up’ audio-visual studios to add to the existing 107 video-conferencing studios and pop-ups already in the system. CSNSW also has access to 600 computer tablets. These were originally going to be rolled-out to inmates later this year as part of a pilot to improve staff efficiency and encourage inmates to take greater personal responsibility. These could now be used to facilitate video-calls, in place of contact visits. At present, we have no confirmed cases of the virus within any of our correctional facilities. Like the rest of the community, it’s important we minimise all potential cases of COVID-19 in our prisons. We’re receiving regular briefings from Justice Health and the Forensic Mental Health Network, and NSW Health, and following their expert advice. We thank you for your continued patience and understanding at this challenging time, and will provide further updates when available.
