22.01.2022 Marine radio communications around and to the south of Eden have been impacted by widespread power and telecommunication outages on the NSW South Coast in the b...ushfire emergency. While radio coverage along the majority of the coastline is being maintained, VHF radio coverage to the south of Eden is limited. Marine Rescue NSW Director of Operations Andrew Cribb said boaters in the region should factor this into their planning. We would urge boaters to reconsider any planned trips but if they do head out, to carry extra means of communication such as satellite phones and to be extra vigilant, he said. Vessels on the water, including those transiting the coast, should continue to attempt to Log On and Log Off with Marine Rescue on VHF 16 and issue any distress calls on VHF 16. Mobile phone coverage may also be affected but if boaters do have mobile service, they can Log On using the MarineRescue App and call Triple Zero (000) in an emergency. Technicians have not yet been able to access the area but Marine Rescue NSW is working with the authorities and telecommunications providers to restore the system as rapidly as possible. It is unknown at this stage when full coverage will be re-established. Cruising Yacht Club Of Australia Australian Volunteer Coast Guard Coast Guard Mallacoota
