22.01.2022 Wollongong homeless hub would like to thank all the amazing businesses and community members that have rallied donations to help our hub clients that were victims of the senseless act of vandalism at the beginning of the week. We will be now able to help them have their cars back on the road by the beginning of next week from your generosity. I would also like to take this opportunity to clarify the media reports that the person charged with this crime was a paying tenant of... the homeless hub, this is not correct reporting as the person is not a tenant of Wollongong Homeless hub and to our knowledge has a private tenancy with a Wollongong real estate agent. We can confirm that all 3 victims are people experiencing homelessness and currently in our crisis accommodation. I invite anybody that would like to come for a service visit to see the amazing work that the staff do on a daily basis to please send your request through to [email protected] for us to organise. 22.01.2022 Wollongong Homeless Hub would like to thank all Emergency Services personnel who have sacrificed their time over the last few months to protect our community from the ongoing bushfire crisis affecting our country. We are grateful to hear that family and staff directly affected and displaced during this crisis have been able to breathe a sigh of relief as they are now able to return home. As a frontline service, we have been able to react immediately when demand increased fo...r our services. During this crisis, we have met people who have found themselves accessing our homeless service for advice, support, advocacy and accommodation not knowing if they were going to become one of the many thousands of people who are homeless across our states. The Christmas/ New Year period is normally a tough time for Wollongong Homeless Hub clients and this year had an added difficulty with increased demand on resources due to the bushfire crisis. We are grateful that we have been able to assist people to travel back home, provide a tank of petrol or receive much needed medication and food parcels, Christmas donations of Opal cards, food vouchers and financial donations that would normally last a couple of months have now all been given out to those in need. We now need to work to replenish our resources and continue to provide support to those vulnerable in our community who rely on our service on a daily basis. With many people donating to bushfire fundraisers and causes we are aware that people may have already committed to donating to those larger campaigns, if you are able to dig a little deeper to help a local service replenish our resources we would greatly appreciate it. Donations can be made by clicking the following link or opal and food vouchers can be sent or delivered to 75-79 Keira street Wollongong 2500. http://www.wefh.org.au/donations/
22.01.2022 What we know as a certainty is that we are open, and preparing to support more Clients in the coming months. In response to the COVID-19 crisis, we have already: - Started completing phone assessments and offsite client safety checks as a part of Client welfare monitoring. - Our Clients are being armed with questions and COVID-19 updates so that they can ask as a precautionary check in before receiving visits.... - Our Team are being up-skilled further in identifying risks and calling them out. Keep updated on our service hours and new outreach program point of connection coming soon. We would like to thank Alex and team from Sublime Point Cafe for coming on board and cooking meals for those sleeping rough and in crisis accommodation within our community. Also thank you to OzHarvest for providing fresh produce, as well as the community for your ongoing support especially during this time xx
22.01.2022 In the last month we have had 19 families move to their forever homes! Thank you for the kind donations that allowed us to support them with furnishing and home starter packs to make their house feel like a home.
22.01.2022 Re-housing rough sleepers back into congregate care shelters during a pandemic is clearly bad policy. If we are capable of housing people safely at one time - why not for all time?

18.01.2022 Appeal for 'One off Assistance' Wollongong Emergency Family Housing is currently assisting a family who are currently experiencing severe hardship and need additional support. Mary-Grace and her children are victims of Domestic and Family Violence which resulted in them needing to leave their former home and relocate to Wollongong for safety reasons. Mary-Grace has been living continuously in Australia since 2001 and until recently was able to work to provide for her family.... Last year Mary-Grace developed a medical condition and was unable to continue her employment at that time. As a result the family could not sustain the rent on her private rental property and was given a notice of termination for rent arrears. As Mary-Grace is a New Zealand citizen (her children are Australian born) she is extremely limited in the supports she can get from Centrelink and she was denied assistance from other major charities. WEFH was able to offer the family safe accommodation by offering them a place in one of our transitional properties. Mary-Grace was able to secure more employment in Sydney but in December 2019 she was involved in a near fatal car accident and lost her means of transport to work and her employment. Thankfully she recovered physically but the family’s financial situation suffered again. On top of that Mary-Grace has developed a second health issue that her medical specialists have advised will need surgical intervention. WEFH has been able to provide support with food, school supplies and vouchers but this vulnerable family needs more support. If you are able to offer a donation to assist this family with rent, living costs or the out of pocket medical costs please email [email protected] or use the donation link on our website. See more
18.01.2022 Thank you so much to everyone who has messaged through offering to donate their reusable shopping bags. The bags help us to make our rough sleeper and family food parcels

13.01.2022 Community Praise We would like to thank the kind donors who over the past 2 days have assisted us by providing individually wrapped toilet paper rolls for homeless clients and essentials to keep themselves and others as safe as possible in this time of uncertainty. We have currently had to ration the food and items we would normally be able to provide and prioritising those sleeping rough and in crisis accommodation. We normally operate on a 60-80 % food and financial donatio...n basis to deliver the vital community service, however due to current circumstances we have only received approx. 5% of regular donations. So a very BIG THANKYOU to the lovely families that have thought about our most vulnerable community members at this difficult time. Current service changes to protect staff, tenants and community have been implemented. Please ring prior to dropping donations so we can be aware you are coming. Home visits have been suspended and clients re being contacted via phone support for the immediate future. Drop in service is only seeing clients 1 at a time to follow the social distancing guidelines. If in doubt of whether we can help you please call ahead and we will advise. We are working closely with department of health and housing to provide a safe and healthy environment for all. Please see the following health links for information on how you can help stop the spread of Corona virus. https://www.health.nsw.gov.au//Pages/social-distancing.aspx https://www.health.nsw.gov.au//coronavirus-resources-cald. 06.01.2022 This morning our staff are needing to provide additional support to people in our crisis accommodation after a heart breaking incident occurred when a random act of malicious damage took place on the road where they had parked their cars. Our homeless community members face many challenges on a daily basis and rely on the one possession of value they are lucky enough to have. Many times their cars are their home when there is a shortage of crisis accommodation. We are hoping that if you have any way of contributing to helping us repair the windows of their vehicles please donate https://www.paypal.com/donate/ and use car in the description.
