25.01.2022 Wollongong Police District would like to remind the public that Remembrance day is tomorrow, 11th November 2020. Remembrance Day is a day of special significance to all Australians, commemorating the loss of Australian lives in all wars, conflicts and peace operations. On Remembrance Day, NSW Government departments and agencies are asked to observe the protocol to fly the Australian National Flag, NSW State Flag and any other house flags at half-mast to remember the sacrific...e of all those who have died for Australia. Other organisations are welcome to participate. All flags to fly at the full mast position from 0800hr until precisely 1030hr. At 1030hr all flags are to be lowered to the half-mast position. At 1100hr a minutes silence is observed. At 1102hr all flags to be re-raised to the full mast position.

23.01.2022 A building crane in Wollongong lost power during yesterday's storm which required a multi-agency response. About 4.30pm on Friday 13 November 2020, officers from Wollongong Police Area Command attended Kenny Street, Wollongong, following reports a building crane lost had lost power and operation of the crane during a heavy thunderstorm in the area. At the time of losing power, the crane had a heavy load of steel attached. ... The storm caused the load of steel to strike two nearby buildings which caused damage to the roofs and windows. The load then collided with a pole and power lines cross Keira Street, which caused blackouts in the area. Officers from Fire and Rescue NSW, NSW Ambulance and Endeavour Energy attended the location to make the area safe. There were no reports of injuries. An investigation into the incident will be conducted by Worksafe NSW.

23.01.2022 Detailed Severe Thunderstorm Warning for DAMAGING WINDS and LARGE HAILSTONES, for people in parts of Maitland/Cessnock, Greater Newcastle, Gosford/Wyong, Sydney..., Wollondilly/Wingecarribee and Greater Wollongong areas. SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS OCCURRING, MAY PRODUCE LARGE HAIL AND DAMAGING WINDS The Bureau of Meteorology warns that, at 2:55 pm, severe thunderstorms were detected on the weather radar near Camden, Campbelltown, Cessnock and Kurri Kurri. These thunderstorms are moving towards the southeast. They are forecast to affect Budgewoi, Belmont, Charlestown and Swansea by 3:25 pm and Sutherland, Bundeena, Engadine and Holsworthy by 3:55 pm. Damaging winds and large hailstones are likely.

20.01.2022 Hot Weather Alert!!! Wollongong Police would like to remind the public of the danger of vehicles coming into the summer months. This weekend the Illawarra temperature is expected to exceed 30c and even close to 40c on Sunday and Police are reminding motorists that children or pets should never be left in vehicles for any length of time especially in hot weather. 19.01.2022 Police are reminding the community that restrictions still apply for travel from Victoria into NSW, and exempt residents must use specific routes to be granted entry at the southern border. Under a new exemption issued by the NSW Government yesterday (Friday 9 October 2020), returning NSW residents and residents of Queensland, South Australia, Western Australia, and the ACT and Northern Territory may enter NSW at one designated checkpoint without a permit and only if they me...et certain criteria. These residents will only be granted entry at the George Caffey Bridge on the Sturt Highway at Mildura. In addition, they must not have been in Victoria in the previous 14 days, other than travelling on the Sturt Highway for the purpose of getting to or from NSW and South Australia. Those who are unable to meet the requirements for an exemption will be refused entry into NSW and must return to Victoria. Other specific circumstances of travel from Victoria into NSW will still require a permit. It is an offence for a person to fail to comply with an order, and severe penalties apply, which include a maximum penalty of up to $11,000 and/or six months imprisonment for individuals. The standard penalty will be a $1000 fine by way of a Penalty Infringement Notice (PIN). It is an offence to provide false information when applying for permits or exemptions, with a maximum penalty of $22,000 and/or two years imprisonment for individuals. Police continue to appeal to the community to report suspected breaches of any ministerial direction or behaviour that may impact on the health and safety of the community. 15.01.2022 Two men have been charged following a strike force investigation into the supply of illicit drugs in the Wollongong area. Detectives from Wollongong Police District established Strike Force Fame in May 2020, to investigate the supply of ‘ice’ from a business in Wollongong CBD. Following extensive inquiries, shortly after 10am, investigators attended a bicycle repair store on Church Street, Wollongong, and arrested a 48-year-old man.... A short time later, a second man aged 55 was arrested on Carr Street, Towradgi. Both men were taken to Wollongong Police Station. With the assistance of the Dog Unit and Wollongong PD Proactive Crime Team, strike force investigators executed a search warrant at the business, seizing prohibited weapons and number plates believed to be stolen. These items will undergo forensic examination. The 48-year-old man was charged with 11 counts of drive motor vehicle during disqualification period. The 55-year-old man was charged with 16 counts of supply prohibited drug, supply prohibited drugs on an ongoing basis, six counts of never licensed person drive on road and organise/conduct/assist drug premises. The pair were refused bail to appear in Wollongong Local Court tomorrow (Saturday 10 October 2020). Inquiries are continuing.

13.01.2022 Wollongong Police are requesting assistance from the public regarding the stealing of two mountain bikes (pictured below). These bikes were stolen from inside a Bulli Caravan Park between the 06/10/2020 and the 07/10/2020. 07.01.2022 Residents across New South Wales are urged to monitor weather reports and health advice as the state is expected to experience heatwave conditions in the coming days. The Bureau of Meteorology warns temperatures are generally expected to increase over the weekend. As the weather heats up, motorists are also reminded it’s not only an offence for children or pets to be left unattended in a vehicle, it can be deadly.... Everyone needs to take care in hot weather, but some people are at higher risk of heat illness, especially if they are older, live alone or are socially-isolated. Remember to; Stay well-hydrated Avoid alcohol and hot or sugary drinks Limit your physical activity Try to stay out of the sun during the hottest part of the day Wear light, loose-fitting clothing made from natural fibres like cotton Regularly check your forecasts from the Bureau of Meteorology on radio, TV, internet or App Get advice from your doctor about whether your medication and/or your medical conditions may affect what you should do if it gets extremely hot Make sure you know who you are going to call (who may need help, and who could provide help to you if needed); make a list of telephone numbers and make sure they are current. It is imperative you are fully aware of the track you plan on walking including the distance, expected timeframe, difficulty and possible risks. Walkers are reminded to have ample fresh water, mobile phones with additional portable chargers and healthy high energy snacks. It is vital to let loved ones know of you...r intentions when setting out on a bushwalk including when/where and expected return time. Police and emergency services expend a great deal of resources each year in the region on lost, disorientated and injured bushwalkers and safety and preparedness is imperative to reduce or prevent any incidents. 04.01.2022 The NSW Police Force welcomed 192 new probationary constables at the NSW Police Academy today at a restricted attestation ceremony. The 130 men and 62 women of Class 343 will undertake 12 months of ‘on-the-job’ training and will also complete the Associate Degree in Policing Practice with Charles Sturt University before being confirmed to the rank of constable. Well done and good luck on your policing careers.

04.01.2022 A cyclist has died in hospital after being struck by a utility near Wollongong earlier this week. Just before 7.00am on Tuesday 10 November 2020, emergency services responded to reports a bicyclist had been hit by a vehicle on Springhill Road at Coniston. Officers from Wollongong Police District were told a 52-year-old man was riding a bicycle on Springhill Road near the intersection of Keira St, Coniston, when he was struck by a white Holden Rodeo utility.... The rider suffered serious head and chest injuries and was treated at the scene by New South Wales Ambulance Paramedics before being airlifted to St George Hospital in a critical condition. The male driver of the utility was arrested and taken to Wollongong Hospital for mandatory blood and urine testing. Around 3.00pm yesterday (Friday 13 November 2020) the man died at St George Hospital. Officers from Wollongong Police District along with the Traffic and Highway Patrol have commenced inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the incident and are appealing to anyone who saw the crash on Springhill Road or has dash-cam footage, to contact police. Police will prepare a report into the man’s death for the information of the Coroner. 01.01.2022 Police are appealing for public assistance to locate a male wanted by virtue of an arrest warrant. Brodie Denning, age 23, is wanted for an outstanding arrest warrant. He is wanted in relation to 2 x alleged break, enter and steal offences that occurred in Thirroul on 3rd October 2020. Brodie Denning was previously residing in the West Wollongong area and is now believed to be residing in the Ingleburn area. Brodie Denning is described as being of Caucasian appearance with a... thin build, and short dark coloured hair.
