18.01.2022 ON THIS DAY: 22nd July 2018 The Wollongong Roller Hawks won the National Wheelchair Basketball League (NWBL) title for the second straight year with a 72-65 win over the Queensland Spinning Bullets. Two weeks earlier the Roller Hawks lost two games to the Bullets in the final round of the regular season. The results relegated the defending champions to third place on the ladder and staring down the barrel of sudden death games in order to defend the title.... The Roller Hawks defeated the fourth placed Red Dust Heelers 68-65 in a nail biter on the Friday before accounting for Kilsyth 81-65 on Saturday to advance to the gold medal game. 04.01.2022 ON THIS DAY: 20th August 2017 After several years of getting close, the Wollongong Roller Hawks broke through for their first National Wheelchair Basketball League (NWBL) championship since 2012. The Roller Hawks matched up against local rivals the Sydney Metro Blues headed by Clarence McCarthy-Grogan and American big man Joe Chambers.... Luke Pople lead the Roller Hawks with 25 points and 9 assists while the sharp shooting of Brett Stibners and Nick Taylor helped the Roller Hawks gain the ascendancy in the second quarter while Michael Auprince held his own against Chambers.
