22.01.2022 Why are we mobile? 1. Clients often feel more comfortable in their own home. 2. Our assessment happens in the "real world". We get to know how a person communicates or has a meal in the place they do this every day. 3. There is no need for the client to travel. We come to you.... 4. There can be better generalisation of therapy goals. Treatment needs to be "salient". This means = we make it meaningful and important to you. What could be more meaningful than practicing talking about things that matter to you, as we sit around your dining room table? Put simply... we are mobile because we want our services to be #accessible and we want our clients to achieve real-life #outcomes.

22.01.2022 **Dementia and Speech Pathology** Dementia is already the leading cause of disability in Australians aged over 65 years. So we need to find ways to better support the ever-increasing number of older Australians with dementia. There is a growing body of evidence that speech pathologists can play an important role in dementia-related communication and swallowing problems. ... At Wollongong Speech Pathology, we are closely following the work of some fantastic Australian researchers in this field, in particular: - Jade Cartwright (WA) for work on treating communication changes in dementia - Cathleen Taylor (Sydney) for work on Primary Progressive Aphasia - Lyn Phillipson (Wollongong) for work on dementia friendly communities If you are not familiar with their work, I recommend you check them out. Who else would you add to this list? Click the below link to read more information on our website about how we support people with dementia: http://wollongongspeech.com.au/speech-pathology-dementia/
