24.01.2022 Australian scientists find potential life-saving cure for women with pregnancy-induced high blood pressure - the rise of blood pressure in pregnant women can be the first sign of pregnancy-induced high blood pressure or hypertension, which is also known as pre-eclampsia. Pre-eclampsia is more common in first pregnancies, and it is estimated that about 10% of pregnant women are diagnosed with it. Most of the pre-eclampsia cases may be mild, but some may get worse and be lif...e-threatening to the mother and baby if left untreated. The mother may suffer from seizures and the babys growth may be adversely affected. Australian scientists are currently researching a potential cure for pre-eclampsia in the form of an everyday acid-reflux tablet, which is safe to be consumed by pregnant women. Dr Stephen Lee, Obstetrician and Gynaecologist, observed that the use of the acid-reflux medication, esomeprazole, has been shown in research to significantly reduce the serum indicators of pre-eclampsia. Dr Lee also shared that the obstetrics community is very excited about this groundbreaking research and waiting for the results of the research to be published which may change the treatment and management of pre-eclampsia. 22.01.2022 After many years of dedicated service in the public and private practice in Perth, Dr Stephen Lee, Obstetrician and Gynaecologist, has made the difficult and well-contemplated decision to go on a sabbatical leave due to family reasons. Dr Lee will be on sabbatical leave until further notice; we at WOMEN Centre will miss him. He is extremely popular with his patients, always ready with a smile for everyone and has the time for a chat with our reception colleagues whenever hi...s hectic schedule permits. While on his sabbatical leave, Dr Lee will not rest on his laurels, but will continue to diligently hone his expertise with training at the renowned and Australias first specialist womens hospital, the Royal Womens Hospital in Melbourne. The WOMEN Centre wishes Dr Lee and his family well and all the best. We look forward to welcoming him back after his sabbatical leave. #DrStephenLee
