22.01.2022 Due to unforeseen circumstances, it is with disappointment we advise Merren McArthur will be unable to join us as speaker on March 4th. However, we have the great pleasure in announcing the incredible Deborah Lawrie AM will be speaking in her place. In 1979 Deborah was the centre of the first contested equal opportunity anti-discrimination case in Australia. The high profile case was front page news for over a year, and was a lightning rod for the womens movement at the t...ime. The case was fought all the way to the High Court and after winning the battle against Sir Reginal Ansett, she joined Ansett Airlines to become the first female airline pilot for a major airline in Australia. Captain Deborah Lawrie AM has been in the aviation industry since 1969 and is a current airline pilot with over 40 years experience. She graduated with a BSc from Melbourne University in 1974 and later completed a Bachelor of Education at Rusden State College and a Diploma of Transport and Distribution at RMIT. In 1998 Deborah graduated from the Cranfield University of Aircraft Accident Investigation. Deborahs autobiography Letting Fly was published in 1992.

07.01.2022 Happy International Women's Day to all the wonderful women and girls in our community! It was honour to attend the International Womens Day breakfast, hosted ...by the Frankston North Rotary this morning, and hear inspirational speakers Tania de Jong AM and Prue Gilbert. It was also fantastic to attend the WomenConnect Frankston luncheon supporting Dress for Success Mornington Peninsula, hearing the amazing stories of Sandra Pankhurst, Robin Bowles and Kerry Tucker. At lunch, I was also pleased to announce Federal Liberal Government funding of: - $2300 for Dress for Success Mornington Peninsula. - $5000 for the local Daughters of Eve Womens Friendship Group, supporting White Ribbon Day and more. - $2000 for local work by the I Matter Foundation, supporting women whove experienced family violence. - $5000 for Mums Supporting Families in Need Inc. - $5000 for the Miscarriage Information Support Service Inc. These are just numbers, but this funding is important as it helps each of these organisations to continue their amazing local work in our community! As father of a 3 year old daughter, husband to my wife Grace, son to my mother Debbie, brother to my sisters Sara and Katrina, and a grandson, Im proud to support all the women and girls in my life and community to achieve success.

05.01.2022 More than 40 Frankston women may be unknowingly living with breast cancer. Thats why, from Monday 5 August - Friday 16 August, the hot pink BreastScreen Victor...ia van will be in Frankston offering free breast checks to women aged over 40. BreastScreen Victoria recommends a breast screen every two years for women older than 50, as it is best way to detect cancer early, when treatment is most successful. These are always conducted by a female radiographer, no GP referral or Medicare card is needed, and they take 10 minutes. BreastScreen Victoria is a fully accredited part of BreastScreen Australia, and is jointly funded by the Victorian and Commonwealth Governments. The BreastScreen Victoria van fitted with the latest technology will be parked at 81 Young St, Frankston (car park next to Young St Medical and Dental Centre), Monday 5 August - Friday 16 August, 7:50am to 5pm. Walk in or book in advance at breastscreen.org.au or phone 13 20 50.
